What Could It Be?

Last night was the worst night of all, I woke several times and was awake at 4 am when I heard Tony go outside and tell the dog to shut up and go to sleep.
For a week now Harley, the 10 year old beagle, has barked and raised hell at something.
The last time he did this Tony checked for a snake around the dog house and found none. Roscoe came out of the dog house yesterday yawning and sleepy eyed so I don`t think its a snake.
The dog feeder is by the dog house and under the little roof hang over I made them last year so it`ll stay dry. I am thinking that maybe a possum or raccoon is coming back there to eat their food, a possum probably. If it were rats Roscoe kills those, so I now need to figure out what is what and set a trap for it.
But this morning I did sleep well, barking dog and weird dreams, seems to be the norm for me.

That reminds me of the strange looking animal I saw around here not too long ago. I was on my way home from church when I saw what I thought at first was a cat, but wasn't. Not sure what that was. I hope you find whatever is making the dog bark every night.

Kobe took to barking at the wee hours of the morning, for a while. Jay built a gate over his dog-building, so now he's locked in at night. I go out at 7:00A to let Kobe run loose again.

They have the whole backyard and its pretty big, but the fence holes are field fencing so they are large and critters can come and go.

@andriaperry We have critters wandering around our neighbor's yards, ours has a chain-link fence all the way around. But, Kobe can see those animals, when he's out in the yard at night.

Get a cheap game camera from Walmart and set out in the pen facing the food thing. The cheap ones ate 35 at Walmart I think.

I am pretty good thanks..I slept OK..although the cat has decided in the morning he needs to start scratching. I don't have a clue why he doesn't have fleas..he does it every summer though. When I had a dog..for some reason, he wanted to go out at 2AM and bark. It is a good thing I don't have close neighbors. It was always on one side of the yard. I never figured out what he was barking at.

Yep, I do have a cage. Once I did catch a possum, took it a few miles away and dumped him out.

You could place a video cam discreetly near the doghouse and film whatever is bothering the dog at night. Or maybe Roscoe is just lonely.
