I Figured Out How To Use the New DVR

I am sure most of you use a DVR and/or Tivo all the time. I never have. With the new plan we have with Xfinity our box is a DVR so I can now record things. I was watching Fox News and decided I wanted to try to record NBC Nightly News so I could watch it later. I played with my remote until I found the correct button to push to request that the show be recorded. That was the easy part. Trying to find it later so I could watch it was the challenge. I had to push quite a few things to actually find it but then I was able to watch it and even delete it after I was done. I found this quite exciting. I always have issues on Sunday night with too many good shows on at the same time and now I will be able to record some to watch later. Thanks Xfinity for forcing me into the 21st century lol

I was a little lost when I first got a DVR, but now I think it's great. It's so handy to be able to record two things at once.

Way back when video recorders became popular I would always program shows to tape and watch later I just hated it when the commercials were taped too. Now of course videos are a thing of the past but I still have a video player to watch my old videos. I am returning to the states at the end of June do you know if video players are still available?

Yes they are and if you have trouble finding one in a store, I am sure a thrift shop, which Florida has in abundance will have one.

@BelleStarr My wife likes Television. I am so bad with the controls my daughter had done something to the dvd or sky thing I could not even turn the volume up and had to wait for them to come and do it. That is how disinterested I am in the television until of course I want to watch something!

@Courtlynn Not everything is on On Demand however, I have found this out myself on many occasions, so this way, I can record the news and any shows that don't go to On Demand.

@rubyhawk We actually saved quite a bit of money by going with this set up so it is worth looking into. I am delighted with it so far.

Mine is quite easy you just go to the show and one of the options is to record it and you tell it if it is just once or every week or day.

i know what you mean. when we had cable, i paid for an extra DVR box in my room. once i learned how to use it, it became my best friend probably when i had to give it up, it had numerous things still recorded on it.

I can see how that would happen, I think I will just delete them as I go unless it is something I love.

I found the instructions to record were driving me round the bend so I pressed all the buttons till I got it right and I did and never looked back. The instructions sometimes are not very good at explaining things really. Well done for sorting it out.

@BelleStarr Same for me too and so I stuck it out till it all came out right and in the end I was so proud of myself for having decoded the whole mystery.

It was like me. It is nice that someone had guided you. For me, I usually sort something with the help of Youtube.

@BelleStarr For me, it is quite difficult to find someone for help. I think the best option is to check Youtube. If I really cannot solve the problem, then it is time to ask from an expert.

@BelleStarr I can't work our DVD player but maybe if I find the instruction book I'd have a better chance of working it out.

As fate would have it, we just got rid of our DVR, which my husband controlled. We just watch what we miss On Demand. Fortunately, we don't watch much TV here. We still have our DVR in Florida. You know I'm proud of you!

Thank you. I use On Demand as well but not every show is on On Demand and sometimes they do not include pivotal episodes. We found this with Major Crimes and with Call the Midwife. I was so mad, I had to search You Tube to find the episodes weeks later.

The challenging thing about a DVR is that no two systems are the same. I'm glad you figured it out and can watch your shows when you want to now.

There are many shows that are no covered by on demand and the news is one of them. Most shows on PBS are also not on OnDemand. I found this out myself when I looked On Demand for shows I wanted to watch.
