I am delighted that I won the school appeal so my disabled son goes to the right secondary school. The school is wheelchair accessible, has a medical bed and there also have disabled parking. In July he will go with me to an open day there. The school term will begin in early September. What are the schools like where you live? Do you know anyone that has been to a school appeal?

Hello Maxima. Great to know that your son will be going to the right secondary school that offers those services. I did back in college when my professor failed me iny major subject and we wanted to attend the graduation but sadly, he was too tough.

Yes, my disabled son is very happy indeed. This school will make him very successful. My sister's children have been there. One of hers is still there.

So they weren't going to let him in because of a disability? I'm America, they pretty much have too. The only time I heard someone protesting was when they didn't want a boy with a therapy dog inside the classroom because two other kids were allergic to dogs. The kid's parents protested, and a court ruled they had to let the boy with the therapy dog attend school there. I have no idea what the children allergic to dogs ended up doing.

My disabled son wasn't successful with the Health and Education Care Plan. Therefore we could only ask for the best school for him. We missed out due to other children living nearer that school than us. I can walk to that school in 23 minutes. It is interesting to read about the therapy dog and the chid. I am pleased he or she go to go to that school due to the court's decision. I wonder what happened to the two allergic to dogs children.

@maximax8 I am so glad you were able to get that done for your child. Mothers are fierce when they want the best for their children. How is your daughter? Amber, right?

Here in the US, like the other Amber stated, you can not discriminate against a child because of their disability. Most schools are wheelchair accessible. I'm not sure how they deal with the schools that have two stories and no elevator. We have districts as well, a certain number of miles that a child can live away from a school before they are considered part of another district. You can attend schools out of district but I believe there is a fee involved.

I wonder how much the fee would be. Amber. I am delighted that most schools are wheelchair accessible in the USA.

@maximax8 It's been many years since I was in school but I remember a friend moved away (to another county) and her parents paid a fee for her to remain in our school. Are there not many wheel chair accessible schools in the UK? Are a lot of the schools there in buildings that are old? Sometimes very old?

Congratulations for that. You deserve a big hug for that. We don't have this deliberation for special kids. What we have are schools for that
