"The Glass Castle " by Jeannette Walls is a memoir about the author's life growing up in what can only be described as a highly dysfunctional family. Walls and her siblings were left to care for themselves and each other.  Their father was a alcoholic who gave them false hope in how the world worked and their mother was a eccentric artist who couldn't hold a real job and most of the time couldn't even get out of bed. Despite the craziness that her childhood contained, Walls went on to become a mostly normal woman and highly successful author. Her parents followed her to New York but hold fast to their unconventional ways. This book will make you laugh , cry and show you a different kind of the American family. Walls writing style is raw and real and earns this book a much deserved ten out of ten.
