Our news this morning did a segment on the dangers of swimming near boat docks that have electric lifts associated with them. They pointed out if the electrical wiring is not properly grounded it will transmit current through the water. It can be dangerous, as I know that a few years ago, in one of the VA lakes I am familiar with 3 people were electrocuted that way. Also, sometimes the boat motors can transmit current. They said the danger is the greatest in boat lifts attached to a dock that might be more than 25 years old and the wiring would probably fnot be up to code. At our lake, you are not supposed to swim near the boat slips..but I admit, I have done it on more than one occasion. I do plan to heed this warning though and steer clear of anything that may have an electric lift. Pass it along to any water enthusiasts you know.

There has been a lot of water related advice from our local news. There's been just as many accidents and tragedies recently due to water. I will keep this in mind as I'll be near / in the water a lot this summer.

@snowy22315 There really should be more readily available information to keep people safe.

Yes, it isn't something I think of all the time either. It isn't super common to have an accident like that, but it does happen.

I think the government should put more warning signs around these ships.

Well most of these are recreational craft, but where they are docked it wouldn't hurt to have more warnings up.
