You snooze you lose (a quarter)

One day I was crossing the street when I thought I saw a quarter lying in the middle of the crosswalk. After I made it to the other side I turned around to see if it was indeed a quarter and not something else lying on the ground that looked like it. It really was a quarter. I was going to go pick it up but there were lots of people crossing the street and lots of cars around too. While I was standing there trying to figure out the best moment to cross the street a guy that was crossing the street saw the quarter and picked it up. He didn't think twice about it. As the saying goes you snooze you lose. If you don't act fast someone else will take what you wanted, or will take your spot, or will get that break instead of you, etc. If only I didn't hesitate and just went back right away to pick it up I'd have that quarter and the satisfaction of not being afraid to pick it up or not caring about what others would think.
