Porch screens have become a great place to hang out for some very alien looking insects this Spring and Summer. A New Jersey employee from the radio station 101.5 FM sighted the infamous "Luna Moth" which can appear from their cocoons right up til mid-July. It's wing span can reach about 4 1/2 inches. They are rarely seen in daylight except when emerging from their cocoons in the early AM, usually due to certain biological signals such as; light changes, temperature changes, or hormonal signals. Afterwards they ground themselves for the day. They usually come from sweet gum trees, white birch, persimmon, sumacs, hickory and walnut trees. They are colorful but eerie looking. Females lay 200 or more eggs in clusters on leaves during their reporductive season. Here is a photo of the moth similar to what the radio personality from 101.5 FM saw stuck to his porch screen. Maybe you have these moths in your state or country. Have you noticed any unusal insect life this Spring? Any weird looking insects you've seen during the Spring/Summer months? @dgobucks226 I have seen a couple of very big locusts that chomped my basil, now they have disappeared.

@LadyDuck Locusts can be destructive for sure. I read the dessert locusts are very prevalent in areas of Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Yes, they blend in quite nicely. Although on someone's porch screen that moth would definitely stand out!

I would not use the word invading unless they are destructive. Are they destructive?

@dgobucks226 Moths do that. They need to survive. But it is a beautiful moth. I would keep it.

Invading was a bit hyperbolic. But it did get your attention! They do feed on and destroy leaves of shrubs and trees so in that sense it is destructive. Thanks for your input.

They really blend into the trees. I would not want to see that alien looking moth on my screen door.
