Will you read my new cook book, "The Lazy Man's Guide to Adding Stuff to Frozen Food"?

I think I would enjoy cooking if I had more time. But as things are, I have enough "hobbies" to keep my days busy. The three things I make from scratch are random stir frys, spaghetti with meat sauce, and beef stroganoff. The stroganoff has incredible aphrodesiac qualities, meaning I have to be careful when and where I serve it. And no scraps for the family dog when easily-offended company is present. Anyway, I recently noticed that I wasn't paying enough attention color in my "recipes," so I've started buyng green pepper, along with my well-established onion and garlic. So now the cuisine Chez Horse has nice color contrasts, as well as texture contrasts, and good, fresh flavors. To eggs, I now add Swiss cheese, green pepper, and onion. Do you have favorite ingredients that you add to pre-fab food? It just occurred to me that my book would be only about three pages long (there'd be a page on salads), so it probably won't get written. Oh well. Bon Appetit!

I buy organic frozen fruits and veggies as any fresh produce is picked long before it's ripe and then packed and allowed to ripen in dark cold 18 wheelers. I've yet to figure out how fresh produce that never sees the sun to ripen can be all that healthy You mentioned prefab food, do you buy stuff like TV dinners or what not?

Do you think frozen fruits keep their vitamins?

@dya80dya I'm assuming they keep some. But I really don't know.

As I do not buy pre-fab food, no, I do not add ingredients, I do everything from scratch.

@TheHorse I never really like the taste of pre-fab food. It does not take a lot of time to cook from scratch.

@LadyDuck I stumble into the kitchen, grab something from my freezer, and then put it in the oven. Then I return to the oven and turn it on.

I don't think eggs count as pre-fab food. They are conveniently pacakged, however. I enjoy cooking when the weather is cold. I love to bake when the weather is cold. Sometimes, quite a lot of my food is frozen - meat, fish, etc. As for pre-fab food, sometimes I start with long grain rice and ground beef and seasonings and diced tomatoes and make Mexican Rice. But other times I start with packages of Mexican Rice and add ground beef and make Mexican Rice. I don't feel ashamed, either. In the summer heat, I prefer it greatly when someone delivers a pizza.

I don't necessarily have much pre-fab food, as you described it. But I actually think if you got really creative and put together a book like this it would fly off the shelves.

If my developmental psychology book sells, maybe I'll "monetize" my success with a recipe book.

@porwest My thoughts exactly. One of my struggles with this developmental psychology book is to keep politics out of it. I have encountered some weird stuff among ECE educators, including racism, antisemitism, gender discrimination, inadequate education, etc. I got away with touching on these issues in an older book chapter, but I have to "pull my punches " in some degree.

@TheHorse And you'll already have a little name recognition to boot. That tends to help with the selling part I hear. lol

I prefer orange and yellow peppers to green peppers but I like them raw and not cooked. I have made some random stir frys and I will use broccoli, carrots, or some green beans in them. Pretty much whatever veggie I have on hand. Of course, some onion will go in there as well. I might add some kind of meat if I have any thawed or left over just depends. It is a good way to use up some veggies that are going to spoil if left any longer.

Yep, very true. I tend to start my stir frys with onion, butter and soy sauce.

That looks like a lot of earthworms, with fat from some pig, and sliced heart or liver of some animal, with vegetarian additions..kidding. I fancy fried stuff. I think unpalatable cuisine can go down the gullet with tasty surprises like our savories. or pickles.

Heh. It's even more striking when I add my onion and green pepper to Kun Pao Chicken, as there's no green in the Kun Pao I get from Trader Joe's.
