More and more, I’m seeing quirky sculpture and artworks as we travel. This emu was at the last caravan park we stayed at. Halls Gap is a country town in the heart of the Grampians and a very popular tourist destination. There is a lot of open area throughout the town and the local kangaroos and emus are quite happy to help keep the grass short wherever such pickings might appear.
The ‘roos here are ‘eastern greys’ whereas in Western Australia we have ‘western greys’. They are subspecies and very similar. The ones at Halls Gap seemed lighter in colour and more grey than ours which are more brown than grey. The eastern grey does are sometimes called blue flyers because of their blue-grey colouring.

I do too. There seem to be more and more. I guess they are something interesting to keep the tourists happy.

@MarymargII It might be that sticky fabric stuff that is meant for outdoor use.

@JudyEvReally cloth? Makes you wonder how long it will stand up--the neck not the bird--lol!

@JudyEv yes, it looks quite realistic - unlike Rod Hull's Emu
Richard Pryor takes on Rod Hull and his maniacal bird on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. (Ally Sheedy, Ed MacMahon cameo)

We had a pet emu when I was young. They could be frightening but mostly they keep their distance. We used to blow the eggs from our emu and make sponge cakes in a baking dish. One emu egg was the equivalent of about a dozen hen eggs.

I thought so and quite lifelike too. They do tilt forward like that when they walk.

There's a couple about two miles from us that have a flock of emus.

Now that is interesting. I wonder how that came about.

The one thing I know about Emus is Emu Oil. It is suppose to be good in helping scars fade.

The emu is a beautiful bird. Is it related to the flamingo I wonder?

I thought it was real when I didn't zoom out. My eyes don't works well, ha ha. I think he/she ate all the grass within the area. lol.
