I had to shop for groceries today. I went to Aldi and this is what I bought, A watermelon. Have to keep a cold watermelon while they are in season.A couple of graham cracker pie crust because I want to make cream pies. Fresh Zucchini, apples, strawberries, sharp cheddar cheese. Vegetable crackers, eggs, whole wheat bread , cucumber, lettuce, onions, salad dressing, dark chocolate and that was about it. It seemed like more when I carried it in. It was nice and cool in the store but when we came it felt even hotter. Hopeyou had a nice day.

Hope your watermelon turns out to be a very sweet one. I bought a few in the past which were tasteless.

@RubyHawk So you don't need salt on them?

Our whole wheat bread was on sale for .89 which is much less than usual so I bought three loaves. Two for the freezer.

@LadyDuck Really! Do you suppose they have identical sales at all their stores? It was a real deal on the bread and watermelon.

Delicious and refreshing. I don’t cool mine until I cut them up then I put them in containers in the refrigerator.

@RubyHawk - We recently got an Aldi store in our area. I haven't shopped there, yet, but I will have to give it a try.

@RubyHawk - We have a StaterBros grocery store here which is where I usually shop. It is like a Kroger. That is where I usually shop. However, I will definitely check out Aldi, now that I know more about it.

@DeborahDiane Aldi was a little slow catching on here because grocery stores are plentiful here but now you can hardly find a place to park. You do have to put a quarter in the slot for a buggy then get it back when you return it. You also must bring your own shopping bags. I don’t mind that.

You will like it unless you want popular name brands. Also their fruits and vegetables can’t be beat, but they don’t have everything you need. I shop at Kroger too.

It was heavy. While they are plentiful we get about one a week. Those that are sold out of season are tasteless.

I am almost freezing in grocery stores! I do like to go as early as possible - I worry about the things I buy with the drive home (even though it's not far, it's still hot). It's nice to be stocked up!

@RubyHawk I bought groceries yesterday and from the store we went to, it was about 15 minutes away. I got some English muffins and tossed them in the fridge when I got home because it's so warm here. Well, this morning we found them already molded .

We only drive a couple of blocks from Aldi so ours doesn’t have time to heat up, but if we’re going out we make Aldi our last stop.

I went to Publix this morning to grab one bag of coffee, and ended up spending $115. Never go to the grocery store on an empty stomach. I am now the proud owner of Aisle 4.

@RubyHawk Personally, I'm not a fan of Publix. I think they are way overpriced. I have no idea why everybody is so in love with Publix.

@Courtlynn I try to go to the grocery store once a week. I find I spend more than I like if I go more often. I wouldn’t go that often if our refrigerator was larger.

Our watermelon was too big to eat in the car unless we’d had a crowd. We needed to buy quiet a bit but had plenty of staples at home.

So do I! I can’t think of anything better unless it’s a cantaloupe. But we don’t eat as many cantaloupes when watermelons are plentiful.

That sounds like a lovely haul of groceries. Aldi has a blackberry ice cream that I want to try. Our closest Aldi is too far away and so I don't often go.

I probably wouldn’t go if it were a long distance. You’d use in gas what you saved in groceries but ours is only a couple of blocks away and I do most of my grocery shopping there.

You have locally grown watermelon? I try to buy some locally grown cantaloupe each year. Its the night that we write up next week's menu. I'm trying to get inspired.

I don’t know if it’s locally grown but Aldi watermelon is always good and sweet so it must not be shipped far. I think they have a label on them but I haven’t paid attention.

I like their whole wheat bread and it costs more than twice as much at Kroger. It’s a good deal any time but with the markdown it was a really good deal, I haven’t found anything yet that I don’t like at Aldi and I love the prices. I usually try to go on Wednesday when the weekly sale starts.

We do too. And they are only good in season. Kroger has them all year but they are cut up in little slices and don’t taste like watermelon. I don’t know where they come from but they aren’t ripe.

Do you have farms around you. Back in the day almost everybody had a big garden even if they didn’t farm but now there’s no farms in our area and very few gardens.
