Received Some Hard News

I have a very good friend. I've known her and her husband for 43 years. They were and have been very good friends, the best I could hope for. Unfortunately, she lives two states away, which is why the news I just received was so hard.
I got a letter from her this morning. Actually yesterday's mail, but I always check the box when I come in in the morning. Usually her letters are several pages long and filled with wonderful news of the family. This one was very thin.
When I opened the envelope there was a little remembrance card in it. Her husband passed away June 1st. I let my kids know, as they were good friends with their kids as well. My daughter texted that she told me, but I missed her message. It came as a shock, but not a big one because he has been in bad health for a while now.
It's all hard to take in. He was a wonderful person, and always asked me if he knew a published author yet. I acknowledged them in my first book and sent them a signed copy. They've been a big part of my life, even if we have drifted apart, mile wise, not heart wise. He will be sorely missed.
I know many of us know friends and family who have passed, and it's never easy. I will always have the memories. Thanks for reading.

Oh dear such news is never nice to receive. Despite not being able to see her often I am sure she knows deep down she is in your heart and thoughts. Keep hold of your happy memories!

It's hard when some one you know and has been good to you had passed. Sometimes I try to prepare myself mentally specially my family is getting old already. But so far I'm blessed with a strong healthy mom.

As we grow older, we have to hear more often this sort of news. But it is never easy. We have our memories, as you say. My loved ones are still with me.
