quickSHAKE!

I was typing a response when I felt my wooden chair moved. I expected one of the ‘city’ dogs was scratching his back under the chair, or maybe Chibi was rolling over to scratch his back. I was wrong. The shaking of the chair lasted for about 8-10 seconds. I immediately looked up at our chandeliers and these were not moving. That is my gauge if we had earthquake. I thought that was a quick shake. My sister also peeped from her room. She asked me, “ Was there an earthquake?”. I answered yes. “The chandeliers did not move though”, I replied. Do you get scared when you “feel the earth move under your feet?” -----------a line of a song by Carole King is mentioned in the last question asked in this discussion.

then you should be aware of the 'duck, cover and hide(?) technique'. this is what is taught to us whenever there is earthquake but please rectify if it is hide or another word.

I am not afraid because in the places where I lived we only have minor earthquakes.

@ridingbet None, we have no strong earthquakes, no hurricanes, no tornadoes, this is a very safe place for what concerns natural disasters.

@LadyDuck oh, so really, your place is the ideal place where a person who has extreme fright on natural disasters should reside.

My first impulse is to run outside every time there's an earthquake because I'm scared - a result of the 1990 earthquake.

there was a mild earthquake here in my province. there is a dormant volcano in a town north from where i live, but i don't think this was the reason for the tremor.

Yeah.. Once I had felt the tremors and I thought that it's the speakers on the bed vibrating. But in few seconds, I heard a lot of noise outside then I came to know it was an earthquake

it is more dangerous if the entire room shakes and the things on top of the counters fall. and yes, there is a distinct sound of the shaking ground.

@anamika161088 well, the electronic appliances that you have might really create very loud sounds that your floor moves, right?

@ridingbet Yes. That experience taught me how to differenciate between earthquake and vibrations from electronic appliances...

I'm kinda used to it. Sometimes it's just my old chair rocking and wouldn't the difference anymore. unless it's more than 3, i wouldn't get scared much.

yes if you are seated in your rocking chair that you may not feel the tremors, but if you are seated in an ordinary stationary chair and you move, then it could be a quake. but let us not be relaxed. it is still good to be ready always.

Germany is not a typical earthquake country. Yet, once I experienced a quick move very early in the morning when I was still in bed. I didn't like the experience.

@ridingbet not often as in the Phils. I have only experienced one time in 37 years that I am living in Germany but it was only light and very short. That was I think in the 90s.
