Wow, it rained

Ally always looks surprised when Boobear starts cleaning herself so close to her, I took this shot in 2016

It did not last very long but for about 10 whole minutes we actually got thunder and rain. It came down hard and furious then fizzled and now it's sunny again. Good ole Ally waited patiently for the rain to stop, then when I opened the door for her she stuck her nose out the turned and went back to the bed room. Go figure. So, did you get enough rain for the plants to thrive where you are?

Just barely, the grass and bigger plants are fine but I need to water my smaller ones.

@rebelann No by August the grass will be dry and turn yellow. Our next rain is not due for a week.

We had rain during the night, it's going to rain also this night. I love this rainy summer.

I'll bet that freshened the air. July is the month when this desert gets most of its rain, this year it would seem it will rain at least every other day but only a little. Right now it is too humid for me, I keep getting sticky even if I take a shower ..... oh well, that's life, right?

I can't imagine what your idea of nice and breezy is @LadyDuck but I think I would be wearing a jacket if I were there.

@rebelann It rains but it's not humid because we have a nice breeze every day. I like this rain, I do not have to water my veggies.

Wow, thunder and everything - I am envious! I would gladly take even 5 minutes of that! We don't get that nice summer rain . . . it seems like the true summer weather has just barely begun, so surely no rain in sight. I've got a bunch of water jugs lined up with water from the tub (water not used during warming it up) . . . that's what I ration out for all our plants! Ally is smart and just knows it's more consistent indoors .

@rebelann Oh yes, PLEASE send a storm or two out our way!! We need it! Our big tree out front shades the house in the afternoon - we definitely keep up that one. The citrus needs to be watered - we want to keep our edibles. The non-fruit bearing tree was saved earlier in the year . . . and thank goodness it is thriving again as we are watering it better now . . . it blocks the view between us and the neighbor's door on the side (which they use as the front door), so we NEED that tree .

Yep, those trees are essential @much2say just think of all the clean oxygen they provide, another really good reason to promote trees. I hope you've gotten some rain by now.

Yep, a whole 10 minutes of storm .... if we get more I'll send some your way. I just give a little water to the roots of my trees every day but they are essential for shade so I am a little generous with them

Not here @Marilynda1225 we had a 10 year drought from 2007 to 2016, in 2017 we got more rain than usual and this year seems to be a normal or maybe better than normal year. Deserts aren't like the lush areas where there are meadows and forests, here the plants are naturally designed to absorb moisture from the air when it's available and if there is no moisture the plants in my desert will look dry with only the roots still living.

I'm glad you got some rain yesterday. If we don't get rain soon, everything will be brown, and our flowers will look very sad. Looking out the window, I'm seeing some brown in the lawn. We're supposed to get rain, at least it's in the forecast for tomorrow. Whether we get it here, is another story.

I'm used to plants turning brown, it's what desert plants to when there's no moisture but the minute there are clouds to give us a little humidity they start to green up.

Oh my, I hope that tropical storm does not give you too much rain. July is our rainy month too but we seldom get as much as you do.

I agree @Jessabuma I'd hate for it to flood here, it would kill a lot of the desert plants.

Same here @dodo19 I still have to water the trees because the little bit of rain we have gotten isn't enough considering how hot it gets.

Dad was born in Quitman TX, Wood county back in 1921 and he'd tell us about the scary thunderstorms they'd get back then with all the rain .... oh, and tornados .... It was always so green there, isn't it still kinda like that?

Hasn't rained for ages here we are having a heatwave. English people moan about the weather a lot but I think a lot of us don't really like the hot weather...I like the cold and stormy england not the current hotness.
