I Need Help

My dad has needed hearing aids since he was seventeen, when his ear drum burst (it has subsequently burst 20 more times since, no exaggeration). Tubes never worked because they kept getting pushed out by the swelling. Many things have been tried over the years, with no avail. He finally heard this past year that hearing aids were available for his kind if hearing loss (there are a lot of different ways to lose and then help one's hearing). However, his insurance will not pay for it. This infuriates me (he is just thankful with what his insurance DOES cover), but there is little I can do. Since brand new hearing aids of his kind cost $6,000, he is thinking of buying used ones. This sounds gross to me, but I'm not the one who has to pay an arm and a leg. Do any of you know any way he could get money off if he bought them? And if you don't, have any of you been frustrated when there was a way to get help, but you could not afford it? *He would never ask for help himself, and has no plans but to cover the cost himself.

Why will insurance not pay for it? Isn't hearing a basic part of "quality of life"?

Unfortunately, no. It's labeled as not a necessity.

No most insurance won`t buy them but will pay for the test.

Have you considered setting up a GoFundMe for this? I mean, used ones might be sterilized but I still would be iffy on that myself. Surely there are people who would be willing to help, or maybe you could sell some things and let that go towards his hearing aids? The men in my family will just let us scream at them instead of buying hearing aids.

I bet that drives everyone nuts. The thing is, if I did a GoFundMe, I know we could reach past the amount needed. But he would be beyond upset with me. That's a good idea though. I like it.

@AmbiePam Yeah it can be annoying sometimes. Hmm.. Well that's understandable. There has to be some sort of grant or another out there or financial assistance for it.

He is not a vet. So you had those dreaded tubes as well. Did they keep getting pushed out of your ear too?

There are financial organizations that will help fund or partially fund hearing aids. I was going to paste the link that @Corbin5 posted. Look around and make some calls.

Do a gofundme page or one on facebook. I do not know of insurance that covers hearing aids except the vets.

I think it's a crime that the insurance wouldn't come down. Used sounds gross to me too. Maybe Senior Linkage Line? A Go Fund Me? Don't feel bad about the Go Fund Me Page if you do it. I know people whose daughter is doing the child-paegent thing.... they've set one up so that they family can take a vacation to Florida where the girl will be competing.... to me - the hearing aids are much more a useful thing

My dad could easily get to the full amount with a GoFundMe because he's so loved. However, his pride would never allow it, and he'd be so angry if I did that without his permission. I really like that suggestion because I know the need would be met.

@AmbiePam Aw, bless your dad. What about if you and your sister and brother in law and step mom were all in on it? Lol, more people for him to be upset with...?

Generally, I think if you go directly to the company who provides them and ask for assistance you can get some. Good Luck with this!

European countries have all excellent medical coverage, unfortunately none of them covers hearing aids. Even here, our medical insurance only covers a very little amount.

There are times I wish I can help by any means but I'm the one who needed help too. For sure, myLot friends will tell you where to get information about this.
