The Jehovah's Witnesses are afraid of me!

They've been on our block twice in the past 3 days. I was surprised the other day when they went by the house but my mother was in the process of bringing painting supplies in so I thought they just figured that we were obviously busy.
This morning, though, I went outside to get the mail and saw that they were on the porch of the neighbors directly across the street. They also had left a leaflet in my door, but hadn't knocked on the door. Anyway, I went out to the mailbox and got the mail. They saw me, clearly had the opportunity to speak to me, and chose not to. I was puzzled.
Then I saw it as I walked back to the house. . . the black bird garden thing that I have in the flower bed. My mother got it for me because it looks like the black birds (grackles) that are so abundant in Cozumel.
Is that is what is scaring them away? Do they think that is some kind of devil symbol? In any case, I'm going to try to find a few more online today!

That is interesting. In all my years as a Jehovah's Witness and all of the homes I went to in an effort to share the Bible's Good News, I don't ever remember not going to a home because of any lawn ornaments.
I don't think any of my Witness friends have avoided a house because of what the householder had in the yard.
Just as a suggestion, maybe you could ask them why they avoided you the next time they are on your street. The best way to find out why a Jehovah's Witness does what he or she does is to simply ask them. In all likelyhood they will be honest with you.

@NJChicaa I may have told you this before. My brother scared some away many years ago. He was out tinkering with his T-Top Trans Am when a few came up to him. He didn't say a word to them for a moment, just stared and then calmly said "I Worship the devil."
They hightailed it out of there.

@ScribbledAdNauseum hahaha You'd think that they would be immune to that by now. So many people must say that to them.

They used to come by when I lived in a neighborhood of many houses. I recall one Christmas and I was getting in my car when they walked up, they began to talk and I took their info, but I told them I was already late and as I got in the car I said " Merry Christmas!"
Later I was told they do not celebrate Christmas, well I did not know!

I had some bugging me many years ago. My mother was a member of their church when I was a rebellious teen. Gave them a run for their money back then. They stopped bugging me about being a member of their society.
Well jump to the future when I was on my own and had 4 children. Told one of them to stop coming by because I was not interested, my mother had forced me to be a part of it when I was too young to think for myself. I wasn't interested! The following week I was busy kneading bread and I looked out my kitchen window to see a group of the church elders coming down the path to my door. I groaned.
When I answered the door and the head elder introduced himself I laughed and gave him an evil grin. I said, Hi George, you don't remember me do ya? I then told him my mother's name and that I was her daughter. He apologized and told me to have a nice day and then turned to hustle his cronies out of danger! LMAO. They never came back again.

I had developed a hard shell knack with them for quite a while, until they started bringing young kids with them to do calls. I could not be rude to the little kids.

That's something, I would never have thought that a bird would scare them away.

I can't remember if there were any who came to our door. There were some Mormons who came by a couple of times a couple of years ago. Then they just stopped. Since they were doing some training or something, they got relocated somewhere else. Nice girls though. But not really for us. Not really religious myself.

I was going to ask if they left material and then you said they do. They usually do that. I hope that bird stays where it is and they will never come to your home. I was visiting a friend in Arizona and she said they wanted to talk to me and i told I have nothing to say to them. so they did not bother me. I live in Israel now and will not put up with them here.

That's hilarious! I wouldn't consider it a bad thing that they bypass your house...unless you are hoping to give them a piece of your mind.
