What do you think about gender reveal parties?

It seems like the thing to do these days is to have gender reveal events..where expectant couples and sometimes their families make a big production and have a party about revealing a new baby's gender. It just seems like these days nobody wants to wait for anything. It is fun to see these events..but these days it seems like nobody wants to be surprised. I know when I was pregnant with my son..unless you had a sonogram late in the pregnancy you never really knew for sure. In fact, I had more than one doctor tell me he was likely a girl. I guess it is up to the couple, but it seems like nobody wants to wait anymore. I guess if you are going to find out the sex in advance..you might as well celebrate it! Maybe, I would have done that back in the day. Who knows?

My 2nd cousin thought her first born was going to be a girl because the ultrasound wasn't clear. The doc said girl so they decorated the nursery to reflect that. Imagine their surprise when a few months later out pops a boy. I don't know. I may never become a mother but if I do? I just don't see the use in a gender reveal party.

This is pretty recent, back in time parents did not know, it was a surprise, not only the gender, sometimes even having twins came as a surprise.

Well that would be something, expecting one baby and two would come out... I guess there were alot of people scrambling.

I have not heard about gender reveal party, though I didn't want to be surprised too. When I was pregnant, the doctor asked if I would like to know the gender of the baby and I straight away said yes. I didn't have any party, but I would like to know the gender, so we can give the baby a name and I started addressing the baby by his or her name and talking to the baby when he/she was still in my womb. I just feel like if I know the gender already, I feel more attached to the baby.

@snowy22315 Yes, I agree with that, though I didn't buy any gender-specific clothes for babies, it's still good for me to know the gender earlier.

it can help couples streamline their buying of baby clothes and toys etc to know the gender in advance

Nowadays, people celebrate almost anything. . I wonder who prepre the gender reveal party. The mom is the one who practically knows it because she is there during ultrasound do the doctora help them prepare?!?

I never wanted to be surprised due to not having much money, I couldn't afford to not prepare ahead of time. I didn't have a gender reveal party though.

I think it is a way of drawing interested parties in. My cousin's son's (girlfriend?) Um not quite sure what is going on there, is having a baby..and it was filmed and put on FB. It was kind of cute I have to admit. I am talking about the gender reveal party obviously, not the birth lol..although my cousin seems to be addicted to social media..hopefully she won't be posting that on FB! hahah
