When Life Gives You Scraps

Sew them together and make a quilt. The quote is pretty much true about my mother. She is awesome on the machine and with her fingers. Every since I can remember there was always this whole pile of fabrics, scraps given by friendly neighborhood tailors, embroidery skeins ,threads and the whole paraphernalia crowding a whole cupboard of my mom's. She continues with her hobby till this date but now she concentrates on smaller pieces. All our friends and family want her handmade and embroidered pouches. When I come ,I help her out with the drawing that she embroiders. Other than the flowers motifs she also likes to customize,as they say,it. The bag at the back is for a cousin who likes to play Scrabble, the front ones are for a badminton player and someone who is very fond of trees.

That saying does not suit this post at all. Instead it should be 'Scraps give you life'

@responsiveme I think the title discussion fits well though It is similar to "When life gives you lemons" right?

Awesome. One of my Aunts was really good at needle point and used to send mom handkerchiefs she'd decorated with little flowers or whatnot, she was born in 1912 so it was still customary for women to learn the sewing and needle work crafts. It's a dying art.

Yes,she would make these exquisite initialled lawn handkerchief s too with lacy drawn thread work at the edges. I like e the fact that she pours in a lot of love into it. We used to have a sewing class at school

I wish I would have been more interested in this craft but at the time I was not at all interested in anything domestic and I cannot recall mom or anyone else encouraging me to try to be @responsiveme

I learnt to embroider when I went to school and I loved it. I have no more time now, but it's something I still love to do.

Indeed scraps can be beautifully done into something , if one has the passion and ability to make them as a craft.

my mother was a good dressmaker; in fact, she had a cross-stitched basket displayed here in our living room. she taught me how to hand-sew and embroider. i miss my mother so much.
