Gallbladder pain for 8 hours....

Perth, Australia

I went through hell very early this morning. I went to bed late but was so ready to finally get some good sleep. But at 1am my right side started to hurt. I was literally thinking to myself "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" I knew a gallbladder attack was coming but was hoping it would at least be a quick one. I got out of bed to take some pain killers but it didn't really do anything. Wasn't strong enough so the pain got worse and spread to the middle of my stomach, lower back and shoulder blades. It put me in a bad mood because I was already tired and when this happens, sleep is not possible at all. 6 hours go by and it was still hurting and making me feel sick. I got up to have a shower to let hot water fall on my stomach and back but vomited while I was in there. So that was .... interesting. Not the first time I've done that though thanks to this stupid gallbladder. I went back to bed, then I was on the floor, then back in bed, heating up my heat pack like a million times, rocking back and forth, crawling along the floor, almost doing yoga positions to see if anything could help the pain. Only thing that stops the pain is me doing sit ups or holding the sit up position. But once I relax the pain comes back again instantly so it's not exactly an easy thing to keep up. But I still kept this up for another 2 hours. I eventually laid on my stomach but half my body was hanging off the bed so the mattress was pressing against my gallbladder. That is the very last thing I remember. I fell asleep for about an hour because my phone made a noise and woke me up. I was so scared to move because I didn't want to feel anymore pain. Luckily the only thing I could feel was my stomach muscles cramping from tensing it for hours. That I can tolerate though. But my goodness. Gallbladder attack for 8 hours.

Is there something you can do about it long-term?

Sure! Surgery.

@TheHorse Not at all, it is minimal invasive, the surgeon makes four small incisions in the abdomen and they remove the gallbladder through those incisions. Usually people go back home the same day.

oh my, I am sorry to hear this. May I ask why do you have pain in your gallbladder? Do you have gallstones?

@rakski I am having gallbladder removal surgery next month. I'm glad your grandma and dad had theirs out! It's rather a nuisance to have once gallstones are blocking the bile duct.

I have never yet had that problem but it sounds awful. Is it brought on by eating certain foods?

@1hopefulman I hope you never have it. It's terrible to deal with. It can be brought on with fatty foods but for some reason mine can happen even when eating healthy. I had a healthy day of eating that day / night but an attack still happened. So a stone must have just got stuck in the bile duct anyway causing the pain.

@VivaLaDani13 I had a friend that had that problem and eventually they operated and took out the gall bladder and it was many years ago and she's doing fine. Things worked out well for her.

@1hopefulman Glad to know she is doing fine now! Thankfully I haven't heard of anyone having any complications after having their gallbladder out.

8 hours...shocked. That is a lot. How long have you been like this Dani? I would advise trying one simple remedy..it provides some relief. Use cumin seeds. Munch them. See if you feel any relief. It is relief only...if you don't feel any relief, let it be.

@vandana7 These particular pains have been going on for 2 years or maybe a bit over 2 years now. But before this sort of pain, I had been dealing with other bad stomach / back pains since I was about 16 years old. But not totally sure if it was gallbladder related but I can only assume so. There are remedies that I've looked up a million times but haven't tried any. I've just been sticking with the basics like pain killers and heat packs. I can try cumin seeds if I can find them! Thank you very much!

Oh Dani, how awful for you. I can't imagine being in pain like that for 8 hours. Oh wait, I can - childbirth can last as long or even longer, but at least you have something to show for all that pain at the end of it.

Ugh. I hate that. I don't know when a person reaches the point to get rid of their gall bladder . I had a bad attack last week and might have no problem for months.

@paigea I am SO sorry you've been having attacks! I know very well how awful they can be and how sick it can make you. Have you ever had an ultra-sound to see how many gallstones you have and their size etc?

@VivaLaDani13 Years ago. The symptoms disappear for months and I forget about it. Then I have an attack. Not sure when to decide it should come out

@paigea Well I am glad the attacks are months apart! I guess if it happens more frequently you might consider taking the bugger out.

@Daljinder The last one I had was back in May I think. Only the start of that attack was extremely painful. The one where I couldn't breathe or even talk right. That was about 6 hours I think.

@Daljinder Hopefully. Oh so today, I woke up with a huge headache. Headache went away but then had some difficulty breathing. That issue is still with me but not as bad as before but now my head is starting to hurt a little with an ache in my back. Literally like one thing after the other lately with not feeling good. I'm ready for that body transplant now!
