Last Night was Alright

Let me say that I get anxious and disturbed when I go places that I have to be social and I do not know people. I do not have the small talk gene. A nearby small town was having a hog roast and raffle. They furnished meat, people brought sides, and the meal was by donation. Hubby wanted to go. We use the bank branch in that town from time to time, as it is fairly close. So we had a connection, although the invitation was online and in the free paper for everyone. I told him I did not want to bring a side. He said he would make coleslaw, and he did. I had just gotten "into" some cleaning, but I stopped, showered, and we went, with me dreading it all the way. We met a couple of friendly couples. I think I may remember their names if I see them again. He made a couple of business contacts. We shall see if it pans out. Our postmaster was there. Evidently he grew up there. The meat was well flavored. The lady who owns their little pizza place and her husband cooked and served it. So my anxiety had no real place. Hubby won a piece of Tupperware, which evidently was what the raffle prizes were for the most part. I would say it was an alright evening.

I often miss out on public functions because of nervous anxiety. My husband is a social butterfly and I am not. I am glad you had an ok evening and it sounds as if your husband was on a winning streak.

I think partly I had worried that being from another town we might not fit in. I also had in mind we would be outside in the heat. Instead it was inside a nice, fairly cool community building.

@Shellyann36 It really seems to affect me more, but the numbers are not as high as they could be.

@GardenGerty So glad it was inside. The heat is so bad this summer.

That's great that you found people to talk with. I would feel the same way as you and when I do go to public gatherings its just hubby and me feeling alone in a crowd.

I am often that way. It takes a push for me, or a sudden brain glitch. I was okay, glad I went. I heard some interesting stories.

@GardenGerty I love hearing folk's stories. At one time I had a gig in which I found folks in the community who had a story to tell. I'd talk with them and write up articles. That was a lot of fun.

Well we did not hear any gossip from these people we visited with. I got the name of a hair dresser, and heard about the postmasters pet turtle that escaped and came back. We met our substitute mail carrier, who was his date. It was nice.

I'm not fond of going to functions either, but find I usually enjoy myself once I'm there. Glad that happened for you too.

Glad you had a nice time there. I know some people hate attending social occasions but the more you do it the easier it becomes!

The key is acting or being interested in others. Last night I could do it.

Great food and good times!
Hi! I know it's been a while but I have returned to Mylot to resource some of my old writing efforts and to see if I could re-connect with some of Mylot Family... It seem that you are among the very few who have remained from the old days! You know how I feel about having a good time and good food, too! :) I hope that you and Hubby are well and I want you to know that I have really missed you very much. The last 12 years were very interesting and I have accumulated a lot of stuff to talk about! I have been working for a newspaper for the last 8 years, too and it has been exciting and rewarding.. You are going to be hearing from me much more as I am 65 and I have the time that I need to share more of my Life and Loves with you! Peaceful
