Is one child enough?

These days most of the new parents are happy with a single child only. Looking at the finances, responsibilities and other obligations they refrain from having a second child. What do you thin? Is it important for a child to have a sibling?

Well its the most practical choice but it also has disadvantages as well. Advantage is that practically all your earnings will be focus to one child and if the child grows up to be a responsible one then all your efforts will payoff. but if the child grows to be brat and spoiled because you gave all you have to him/her then too bad for you have only one investment and it turned sour. For those that have sibling, they could help one another in the near future supporting each other as they grow up. Since they are two attention is divided between the two so its either they will compete for your attention or they will mutually cooperate to share what is for them and what is for the other siblings. In time it may become an advantage for them as they grow up. and most of the time they build memories that they would enjoy as they grow older. As for the single child he will grow up along with no one to share to in older years.

@amitkokiladitya Then it may be a disadvantage. Both have their risks and rewards it will just depend on the parents willingness to take good care of the child.

But what if the finances are such that the second child will not allow anyone to live happily..then?

@rsa101 true..I feel it is better to give a good life to one child rather than giving compromised life to two

I am only one child for my family. And in my childhood I always wish I could have a brother or sister so that I would not be so lonely. So I think probably two children are perfect for a family.

I think ideal is to have two children so that they have company. One child on their own can be lonely without any siblings. It is wise to not have too much of an age gap between the two children. I have a sister 5 years older than me. I think an age gap of 2 or 3 years is better than a 5 year age gap. My son is age 11 and my daughter is age 9. When the parent is elderly one adult child finds it hard to deal with things. I have my sister to help me.

I agree the expenses are so high especially for education. Still I feel a sibling is necessary.

Yes, every child should have a sibling to share their thoughts and ideas. Without sibling, a child gets frustrated easily.
