I'm Angry that these Fairy-Tale Believers Think They're Right because They're "in the Majority"

the Galileo-quote that I think of when I argue against 'lack of reason' thoughts in religion

I was in a Facebook-group that purported to be 'about men becoming more-Godly.' And I proposed that the 'sacraments' (Roman Catholics' weekly-, yearly-, and more-or-less frequent-rituals) are only symbolic ... mere reminders of central Christian truths ... (e.g. Holy Communion (where sacramental bread & wine are shared with all the attendees) is merely a reminder that We Are the body & blood of Christ in His church) But that was met by disagreement---and not even "reasoned" disagreement, but just 'No it is not symbolic! It is REALLY Jesus coming back, transforming into bread-&-wine, and making us commit cannibalism every Mass!' with others chiming in 'Yep-yep-yep!' without reason And how did they "win" that argument? by blocking me from any further replies! Makes me imagine this exchange between 'them' (or at least whichever one it was that blocked me) and "St. Peter at the gates of Heaven": St. Peter declares they are unworthy of entry. They reply, "Maybe, but we plead The Blood of Jesus (our redeemer)!" And he replies, "No, no you don't." And shuts-&-locks the gate---not responding to any further protest. And we hope they're happy wherever (other than Heaven) they're going.

They don't want to listen to ANY replies that don't fit into their "intellectual" beliefs of the Bible. They don't want to realize that there are many ways to translate the words of the Bible and how they relate to the believers. They don't have the guts to step away from the pack and believe anything different than the normal group of believers and what they preach. The Bible is translated from a very ancient language and there needs to be room for difference in that translation. There needs to be room for people who have a difference of opinion of that translation. They don't allow for intelligence or intellectual differences and the only way they know to rebut the differences is to block them any way that they can. Does it really change the total vision of what Jesus was teaching? Why can't another's viewpoint be taken into consideration and discussed? In my mind it would be like placing a bottle of dirty water in front of a group of thirsty people. The water is dirty and green and obviously muddy. One person says lets drink from this bottle while another person says "No, it doesn't look healthy to me". The majority decides to follow the person who decides to drink the dirty water because they are thirsty, they don't take into consideration that there might be something in the water that will make them sick...the one person who says the water doesn't look healthy to me keeps having his opinion blocked by a group of people talking over his objections and logical reasons for NOT drinking from the bottle. Somewhere down the line the people who drank from the bottle turn on the man who didn't drink the water and demand to know why he didn't stop them.... I applaud your attempts to get your point across, @mythociate, sometimes people are just too hard headed to stop and take into consideration another's viewpoint even if it doesn't match their own and especially, gasp, if it makes them think.
