How MyLot helped me save $40 dollars today!

While drinking my second cup of coffee this morning, I decided to wash my sheets, as it had been a couple of years since I had done so. While I was at it, I decided, I would take my big blue comforter in to the professional cleaners and have them wash it. It had been about five years. But I was also thinking about what to write about on MyLot. "Assertiveness" crossed my mind, which is essentially "getting ones needs met without infringing on the rights of others," but I ultimately decided on something else. I soaked my sheets in my magic speaker screen cleaning solution, put them in the washer, and headed out to the Korean Laundry Place, blue comforter in hand. As I was leaving the Laundry Place, disappointed that a regular wet cleaning would take three days, I asked the lady about how much it would cost. $49.50, she said. I paused, ready to say What the Heck, and then remembered my almost-post from earlier in the morning. I told the lady I'd see if it would fit in one of the machines at my apartment complex. $45, she said. I thanked her, but I wasn't in the mood for bargaining, so I went home. The total cost was about $5, and the comforter looks great. I'm glad I had assertiveness on my mind that morning. Have you ever saved (or made) money by being "assertive"? Other examples from my life are coming to mind, but I'll save them for later.

With others yes, with myself no. I blew $40 bucks on the slots tonight, even though my mind was screaming "DON'T DO IT!!!"

I have tried to save before but I end up getting lazy. So recently I just let them take the money when ever I reach the minimum pay out.

@TheHorse More than two is more like aggression than just assertiveness I'd say. Of course you would have to be pretty aggressive to successfully wrestle sheets that hadn't been washed for a couple of years.

For the price that lady wanted to charge you could buy a new comforter. But washing it for $5 sounds like you made a good decision.

@compslick Or a new comforter. Yes. I knew our machines could handle the sheets. I wasn't so sure about the big ol' comforter.

45$ to wash , it costs less to throw it away and buy a new one at Ikea. Aldi has comforter for sale this week at 15$ and they are very nice.

I did say, "I could buy a new one for that price" to the lady, even though I haven't priced comforters lately. I guess I was right.

Good for you! With some things (the price of a cheap pair of speakers I don't care about) I might be flexible. But other times, the price is what it is.

@TheHorse Definitely, especially priced to move, so it isn't too high. Oddly stuff animals about a foot tall for just $5 isn't moving. Brand new it's triple the price, just doesn't get noticed.

In Indonesia a lot in public places like the mini market there are always people who take care in the parking lot and this is not official from the relevant mini market or local government I said this was like a thug who served as a parking attendant Usually I give them Rp. 1,000 for one parking, one day I don't have Rp. 1,000 denomination, and I only have Rp. 2,000 denominations. but when I give the money, I expect some change from them, but the parking attendant is silent and does not give me his change. I then firmly asked for my change even though only Rp. 1,000 I don't like their behavior like that and they seem surprised to see my firmness and finally want to give the change

@TheHorse I bet! The only way I could save a lot of money is by telling Leticia not to come any longer. But I feel that as long as I have some money and as long as she wants to come, my house is her house.

Wow, thats an expensive wash for a comfortor especially taking 3 days. You could go buy a brand new one for that amt of money. Good thing you took it back and did it yourself, can you imagine the people who actually leave it for that price. My kids call me cheap because I always try and find a cheaper way of taking care of what I need.

I would definitely call myself frugal. But not cheap. When I take a friend to dinner, we go all out. And when I really want something (like a $2000 guitar), I buy it.

I thought you were gonna say that you found $40 in your sheets. But what they wanted to clean your comforter is way too much. I'd rather spend that money at a casino or get myself a tasty baked treat.

Did you use the magic speaker screen cleaning solution for the comforter too, or is that too harsh for the comforter? I forget what the components are for the solution. (Oxy Clean and something?)
