Pre-empt!

I have been working under short term contract for a few different workplaces at the same time lately. Why? Because I am curious of how different workplaces run their businesses. Because they needed someone to help them out desperately at the time, and I happened to feel obliged to help. At one workplace, there is this staff who has tried her best to oust me for the last three months or so. Her method has been really sophisticated and almost like a crushing/squeezing torture device, a bit tighter and harsher every week. Problem is, I was not too intelligent to really understand the situation. But when a series of mishaps always happened on the day I supposed to work there (we take turns to cover that unit), I began to feel puzzled. Yesterday when I came to work, I was ready for another series of mishaps which that staff never failed to organize in advance for me, so that I could be blamed for. (So far, I had managed to neatly avoid the pits she had dug for me weekly to fall in, but last week, I was not that lucky. Let say that the damage spreaded to others and no one was happy with the outcome.) I thought lots about what had been going on and became a bit angry. I don't really need that job. I was there only because they had headhunted me for my special knowledge and expertise. I had planned to blow up yesterday if another trap was set for me by that mental staff. Surprise surprise! All honey and sweetness awaited me yesterday (instruction as normal via emails)! Of course, there was a tiny booby trap there but nothing terribly deadly. Like a volcano about to be erupted and spilt over, I had been ready to give that workplace a piece of my mind then walk out, but instead, I was pre-empted! I spent the day yesterday in an amused state, but pleased that nothing bad had happened. Have you ever been unlucky enough to have such a work colleage who constantly set traps to discredit you? NB. From what I found out, the supervisor and other staff had realized right at once that the chaos which happened last week could not have been caused by me. Hurrah for that.

No I have never had anyone do that to me I guess I was just lucky, I did have some people who were gossips and spread stories and it took me a while to figure out the guilty party but I let karma take care of that lol

I thought of karma too, but perhaps karma doesn't exist in this case. This person has terrorised others in the past three years and the supervisors let her be. I just don't get it.

@BelleStarr I plan to ask this directly one day, to find out if that staff happens to be a relative of any of the high rank people in that company. Sounds odd and pathetic if they knew she had been playing dirty tricks to others, yet continue to keep her in their payroll.

@arunima25 People seem to tiptoe around her there, I don't understand why yet.

@YrNemo But at least others are now aware of her misdeeds.

Oh yes, I have and the particular person did so many things to try to discredit me to the staff and not to my boss. It was a saga of epic proportions. Karma always comes around though.

In a sense, I do want to karma to come to that gal! (She had maimed others before I arrived. I was just the last in the queue.)

I had one. She knew I disliked her instructing me, she was my junior and some ego does come into play. But she got an ego satisfaction doing it. I left the organization when she started playing carrot and stick game with me. Carrot was not fun...I mean she wanted me to write my retirement nest egg to her daughter, or suffer the consequences. I preferred the consequences. Give me a break that is like having bed bugs around. LOL. Ironically the whole office supported her. She was the wife of a drunkard. So I was supposed to pity her, and since I had managed to provide for me some, and since I was unmarried, they all wanted me to take charge of that family. The nerve!

I realized this situation has stressed me out unnecessary. And that was when I thought I should throw in the towel and simply just quit! I don't know, perhaps I might just do that. It is just not worth the worrying.

@YrNemo My experience tells me no stress is worth it. If we are not happy there, we need to move on. Did I suffer monetary loss? Yes. Am I happy even after that? Yes. So what have I to fret about? Nothing it seems. LOL.

@vandana7 THAT thought made me think that I should leave. The situation has made me agitated and really stressful.

@YrNemo If she has been caught, from now on she will be more careful, she could be more dangerous.

Do you think that it is fixed now, or that woman is just waiting for a better chance to strike again, this time more deadly? I have kept a record of everything she did so far, so that before leaving the place, I could give it to the big boss. I hope my contribution would help them keeping future staff longer.

@LadyDuck I have been thinking about her mental state. She does act like a mental case.

I've been pretty lucky in my career not to have anything like that happen to me. It would drive me crazy if it did. Thank goodness your supervisor and other staff realized it wasn't you. Too bad you couldn't let them know who it was!

@YrNemo Don't let the workplace stress you out. It's not worth the health risk, nor getting grey hair!!!!

I think they knew very well who did it. The problem is, they all believe in being diplomatic and keep peace. My hair got grey faster in the last 2-3 months, from just thinking of the problems awaiting for me at that workplace.

I am sorry to know that you have gone through all these troubles by a colleague. Time will prove your innocence for sure. No one can trap another person in a long run.

From what I heard, all past victims of hers left after about half a year or so. I don't know if I could survive another 3 months .

Oh no, it is not ending yet. It will only be ending the day I walk out of that company for good. (I am thinking of doing just that. Why should I care about them if they keep a staff who has been dragging them down lower and lower with time re: quality and reputation? I have a suspicion they know very well what that staff has been doing, persistent in being a menace to others that way. I have been hired to help fix the problem, but the cause is right there.

Fortunately no. So sorry you had to go through that.

Lucky you. One thing that consoled me is, she did that repeated to others in the last three years (I was not the only one). She wants to consolidate that position just for herself but she doesn't have enough skill or the willing to improve herself. THAT is why the supervisor kept hiring the second staff.

Luckily in the past I never had such people. Or I would have been afraid for my life.

I am glad you were cleared. No I have never worked in such an environment where someone has tried to set me up even though I have worked in toxic ones from time to time.

I was working with one like that. He was doing the same to some of the team which was bad.

From what I heard, that staff ousted quite a number of people so far in the last three years. I am the latest victim. (But why the management tolerates her???)
