Do you like my toes?

We’ve just had three months away travelling to the east side of Australia and crossing the Bass Strait to Tasmania. We found it much colder than we expected and had to buy some extra clothing including gloves and scarves. My gloves are a lovely bright pink and I thought you’d enjoy this photo of them warming up my toes which aren’t really as big as they might appear here. We are home again now in Western Australia and it’s quite cold here too. We even had snow on Bluff Knoll which is about the only place we ever have snow and that doesn’t happen every year either. Some of you might remember a ‘lady in need’ stayed in our house while we were away. The only downside to that is that she has used a huge amount of wood and for the moment we’ve had to buy more in. When we’re home we only light the fire in the evenings as we spend a lot of our time in the office which we heat with a small blow-heater. But buying wood isn’t a big deal. You couldn’t expect her to live in a cold house when there was a lovely fire just waiting to be lit.

You can get some of the heat we have to endure at the moment!

@maluse Mercifully Ireland has been spared all that European heat. Even I am wearing a coat today which is unusual.

It's a shame the world can't 'even out' it's temperatures and rainfall. We'd all be happier.

Nice gloves I remember visiting that place too, it was so cold. Your toes look good, I was thinking of how big they look haha! Then I read what you said.

I should think that lady was worth the extra wood for keeping your place safe. Love the pic

I guess so but the load cost us $570 which we wouldn't have had to pay otherwise.

Hey if they stayed warm, that is the important thing! I find the right kind of space heaters appropriately placed can really warm a house..even a fairly large one like this.

Some heaters are very efficient. We have reverse cycle air-condtioning too which we can use if we want to.

Creative way to warm toes. Glad to hear you are home again. Funny sitting here on a hot night hearing about the cold.

Glad you took care of her. Are your toes still there? I hope so. I'm heading off to Montana soon.

So will Montana be hot or cold at the moment? I have an idea it is cold at nights. Is that right?

I am sure it feels great to be back home. You are feeling the cold and I am enduring the heat. That's a lovely pink by the way.

That was so nice of you and Vince to welcome the "lady in need" into your home while you were gone. Hopefully, she was a good guest and took decent care of your home. I wouldn't blame her too much for using up all your wood, as I agree with you on your last sentence! You just can't pass up a good fire in a cold house!

@moffittjc We would have let her stay till she found somewhere else but having a permanent guest isn't really on our wish list. However we wouldn't see her stuck.

She was a great guest and very grateful so all is well. She is house-sitting elsewhere at the moment so I hope she finds something a bit more permanent after that if that is what she wants. Sometimes if a person is a good house-sitter word spreads and they just carry on from house to house.

Definitely bright pink. No, I wouldn't expect her to stay in a cold home with a fireplace and wood beckoning.

@just4him I was able to type with them but I couldn't type with ordinary gloves. Having the fingertips free made it easier to do many chores.

Well glad you're back from your escapades and are now relaxing for awhile. It is the end of winter there now (is it now) so you must be ready to have a lovely Spring soon! Glad you thought of a quick way to keep warm with those gloves on your toes--haha! You may have to wear them a few extra nights till you get more wood in!!

We have had a load of wood delivered so we have plenty again now. August could well be quite wet but September should see some sunny days returning.
