Synthpop Burt Bacharach-Hal David? I never knew this 80s new wave classic was a cover much less from the famed songwriting team. “Always Something There to Remind Me” is about a man recently broken up with a lover and wants to forget but there is always something to remind. Dionne Warwick first recorded the song as a demo in 1963. Soul singer Lou Johnson had the first hit version in 1964 at Billboard #64. That same year British singer Sandi Shaw took it to UK #1. In 1970, R.B. Greaves of “Take a Letter Maria” fame had a cover reaching #27. Naked Eyes enjoyed the most successful hit version. Formed in 1982 in Bristol, England, Naked Eyes were college friends vocalist Peter Byrne and keyboardist Rob Fisher. The song was a favorite of Byrne’s and they recorded it as demo landing them an EMI contract. From the album, “Burning Bridges,” “Always Something There to Remind Me” reached Billboard #8 and along with their other big hit “Promises Promises” remains a popular 80s staple. Naked Eyes never toured and broke up in 1984. Fisher died in 1999. Byrne revived Naked Eyes in 2003.

When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was a very young Keanu Reeves.
