My sunflower is saying goodbye! This is so sad.

I'm trying to head off to Montana tomorrow to work on the cabin, so I've put my balcony plants where my neighbor can water them. This evening, my waning sunflower curled its head inside my unscreened window, as if to say goodbye. It made me so sad! I'll be back in a couple of weeks.

@thehorse The way they get all droop-headed is heart-breaking, and you’re leaving it just when it needs you most. It must feel so betrayed seeing you walk out for a few weeks with it knowing it’ll die in your absense.

Precisely. It makes me think of one of my favorite Greg Brown songs.

@TheHorse I let the sunflowers in place, the birds eat the seeds and those that fall on the ground will give new sunflowers next year.

Maybe it's too hot. Maybe it just needs some water. Good luck with your job in Montana.

Is there a way for you to save this flower? I'm sure you can transfer this flower some where.

No, once a sunflower has run its course, it will bear seeds and become dust.

Hmmm... and your vehicle is too small to take the poor sunflower with you? For shame, pony! Since you probably won't be taking your desktop with you and we all know you won't buy a smartphone, I suppose this is your way of telling all of us 'bye for now... I hope you enjoy your time away and come back refreshed and ready to visit on myLot again.

@TheHorse Not very much happened here while you were away... We did have an incident where our pony ran away but it appears he is back with no problems now. Oh, and one other item... but I should pm you about that...

@TheHorse I'm glad you made it back safely. I saw this picture when I opened my computer one day and thought of you. Enjoy this field of sunflowers.

Nope. No internet up there. I try to be "off the grid" as much as possible when I'm at the cabin. I did get the land line phone working.

It may be too small to produce edible seeds. But I'll check. If they're too small to eat, maybe I'll secretly plant them somewhere.

This sounds like a vacation you will enjoy:) I water my sister's plants, whenever they go out of state. I'm good with her flowers, but not my own! lol I'm not sure how long sunflowers last, we've never grown them before. Have fun and stay safe:)

@rakski That's why sunflowers thrive here more. If you visit UP Diliman in the summer you will see there's a line of sunflowers there in the summer season but they all wither and die when rainy season starts.

Sunflowers prefer the heat and can tolerate it. Must be from over watering, rain, or lack of sunshine.
