Manafort defense rests without calling witnesses

Paul Manafort's defense strategy is pretty bizarre. The prosecution rested yesterday. Today the defense rested without calling any witnesses and without Manafort taking the stand either. Either they know that he is totally screwed or he is banking on a pardon from his buddy Trump. I guess we will get a verdict in the next day or two. . .
Evidence in the trial of Paul Manafort could conclude today, followed by closing arguments and the possible start of jury deliberations.

I am afraid that his lawyers figure the prosecution did not make the case stick or else The Tweeter will pardon the crook.

This is a strong possibility after what he twitted about this trial.

@JamesHxstatic He has insulted the justice many times, and his base likes that, they would approve whatever he does, even if he was asking to the Red Army to keep his door, so pardoning a friend would not be a problem for his voters.

@topffer True, but that would be met with outrage. His base would not care at all though.

Or he bribed the jury Not guilty sentences are very rare on federal courts, so he might have taken the right decision, I do not believe that it could have changed anything to the sentence.

It seems to be a pretty clear-cut case.

It isn't up to Manafort's defense team to prove he's innocent. It's up to the prosecution to prove he's guilty.

Hadn't heard of this case before. If I was on a jury I'd be suspicious of anyone not taking the stand. To my mind it means they don't want to experience cross examination by prosecutors. Or it could be that the prosecution case has been destroyed on cross from the defence

Paul Manafort was Trump’s campaign manager for a few months and business associate for years. He’s on trial by Mueller for all sorts of fraud.

That is kind of strange, that they didn't even call a single witness.

I thought so. What’s the point of having all of those expensive defense attorneys if they aren’t going to present a defense?
