I used to think they were basically the same thing (except maybe Blu-Ray 'put more "data" (commentary, bloopers, etc.) on the disc). But no; I got a Blu-Ray disc of MARVEL's Black Panther for my birthday, and my DVD-player can't play it. I understand that a lot of DVD-players include a Blu-Ray reader, but I didn't know they were any different; so when I was choosing between one that 'was just a DVD-player' and one that 'also read Blu-Ray,' it sounded like they were asking "do you want to pay regular-price or that-plus-extra?" But the difference: https://www.bing.com/search?q=difference%20between%20dvd%20%26%20blu%20ray&rrid=_4a4d8ca6-d007-c59d-34cf-7b40dfa07200 mainly the beam of light that reads the disc. While most DVD technologies rely on a red laser to read and write data, the new format uses a blue-violet laser instead (hence the name Blu-ray).

Nope. Like I said; one uses red light while the other uses blue. And the player I'm talking about isn't 'a program I load on my computer'; it's hardware ... the kind you 'upgrade' by "throwing away and buying a new one." (Unless they can somehow 'install' a blue laser next-to/instead-of the red)

The only thing I know is that. Blue ray is clearer than a dvd copy.

Yes, and I explained why---the blue laser is more-precise than the red.
