I get coloured every 6 weeks without fail at the hairdressers but I have NEVER home dyed because my hairdresser warned me it's too damaging. Of course she might be exaggerating as she's had thousands of pounds off me over the years.

@boiboing Oh yes, you have to be careful. I prefer root touch ups.

I color my own hair every few months or so. My hair doesn't grow very fast so the color lasts a lot longer for me. I stick to simple Nice n Easy brand and have been using it for years.

@snowy22315 It is okay. I think that is the natural part of aging.
And besides, my father side's relatives have white hair even when they were young.

It is quite expensive at the beautician. Nowadays they have kits that are less damaging to the hair supposedly.

@snowy22315 It's expensive, but I'm not someone who should be allowed to do anybody's hair, especially my own. So, I pay the price.

@snowy22315 I use Nice and Easy and it is made by Clariol. I always used clariol products in all the beauty shops I worked in and that was a long time and never had any problems with it in the shops or doing my own at home. The whole thing is to read the label thoroughly.

I used a wash out dye a couple of times about 20 years ago. If you don't like my hair colour (grey)....don't look. I'm comfortable and never need to worry about roots...,

I don't use any hair color. However I apply Heena once in three to four months to help with grey hair. It is a natural conditioner and so has no damaging effect.

@snowy22315 It is safe. But you don't get color options to choose from.

I donĀ“t colour my hair at the moment and I have done but not many times either.
I usually use henna if I can get it good quality and well at least I hope that it was.
Its messy but well worth it.

@snowy22315
Only thing with that is if you use henna not to have coloured your hair with the normal dye just recently.
As it can turn another colour altogether.
Just saying for the just in case.

I color my hair at home, and I've been doing it for about 10yrs now. I started with golden or honey blonde highlights from Garnier Nutrisse, and I occasionally use the L'Oreal Hi-Lites for dark hair in magenta (may try violet some day), and lately I've been using burgundy from Revlon. My hair isn't damaged, but there are also times where I let it completely go back to brown before dying it. I've gone from one to the other in the past though, and my hair is fine. I don't bleach it though, so I can't speak on that. I'll probably stick to the burgundy for a while, and maybe magenta next summer.

The hair stain will definitely hurt the hair. I sometimes dye my hair, but not often.

It isn't the stain so much as the chemicals they put in it.

Yes, I do. At least once in every five or six months. Because coloring your hair every month could severely damage your hair. I use L'Oreal by the way.
