Silly or maybe stupid sightings

I took one of my employees to clean a room in a customers basement a bit ago. Today has been an on again-off again rainy day. On the way home from the job we passed a young girl going for a walk with her baby in a covered baby carriage/stroller and my employee said she also had a dog with her. On any other day that may be a common sight but on a rainy day seemed a bit silly to us if not outright stupid. Granted, we've not been hearing thunder nor seeing any lightning but what's the guarantee there won't be any? I'm quite surprised she was out in the rain with her baby at all today. Once I got home I headed to the bank to make a deposit and on the way was a group of bikers biking in the rain which by then was coming down harder. There was an older child/adult in the front and back with a few children in the middle. Across the street was another younger child of about ten or so and it looked like he was calling someone in back of him although I couldn't see anyone, and I don't know if he was with the group across the street or not. I'm guessing they were from the SHARE program done in the summer months or the community center's childcare or babysitting kids unless it was a separate daycare. Whichever the case if I were their parents I wouldn't be happy they were biking on a rainy day. Once I was done at the bank and waiting to enter the road I saw the three bikers in the banks parking area. Since I was stationary, I made sure no one was in back of my car as I had to capture a pic of one of my sightings this rainy day. I think you can easily tell it's not merely sprinkling but really raining. Funny thing is, my employee that worked today, his only mode of transportation is a bicycle and he chose to ride home in the hard rain. Have you ever gotten caught by the rain while biking or would you let your kids bike on a rainy day even with adults other than family?

If it was really hot outside, I could totally understand them all being out in the rain, because it would have probably felt very refreshing! When I was in college, I had to work a full-time job to help pay my way through school. And because finances were tight then, I did not have a vehicle, so I had to bike everywhere I went, including to and from work. Needless to say, there were countless days when I got stuck riding my bike in the rain! It's just something I learned to live with!

@MarshaMusselman Wow, that is kind of weird, given that it wasn't that hot outside!

@moffittjc and it was a rainy, gloomy day from the beginning. It would be different if most of the day was gorgeous and a rain cloud happened to dump right then. We came from an inside job and it rained most of the time we were there it rained off and on during our ride home and then when I went to the bank shortly thereafter. That is why I was so surprised at the number of groups either walking or riding bikes.

It wasn't all that warm, maybe mid seventies. If it was just kids in their neighborhoods or just adults I wouldn't be as surprised.

If it is the only means of transportation I guess a person has to do what they have to do. I would not allow my kids to ride their bikes in the rain if it were thundering and lightning. Did the forecast mention rain or did it just come from out of nowhere?

@MarshaMusselman Perhaps these people did not watch the news at all during the week? I guess in some instances such as the woman walking the dog with the baby in the stroller they may have had to go somewhere and walking was the only way to get there. As for all of the kids biking with adults, I have no idea.

@Shellyann36 neither do I as I didn't stop my car to ask any of them.

I would not, but the teenager of our neighbor thinks that it is refreshing and funny to bike under the rain.

@MarshaMusselman If someone is caught in the rain and the bike is their mean to go to work, they have not another solution, but use the bike to go back home.

@LadyDuck correct. It may be the only mode of transportation for many adults in any country. What I saw looking like pleasure rides as most was in residential areas

Kids doing it if their own volition will probably happen but when adults take them out on such rides it seems they forgot to apply some extra common sense that day

Riding a bike in the rain sounds dangerous to me. I know I never let my kids do that, nor did I ever walk them in a baby carriage in the rain. So dangerous!

People do strange things in the rain. No, I wouldn't.

I question whether any bothered to looking outside as it rained most of the day, or looked at the forecast before taking those kids or work them.

Was rain expected that day it was that the only day you could go for your purchases? Shopping for needed items I would look at differently that riding for pleasure. The only one I saw that may have been getting necessary items was the last with the baby but she should have put it odd till someone came home or asked for help to keep her child safer. A lot of people s shop for groceries in rainy days but they drive their cars there.

@anamika161088 that it's certainly true. It rains when it's zero percent chance and doesn't rain when we've cancelled all our plans.

@MarshaMusselman It's long back when I was in high school. I was not following any forecasts then. Also the weather changed suddenly. When I went out, it was sunny shinning bright and when I came back home, I was drenched in the rains. Weather is unpredictable.

I wonder if they bothered to look at the weather at all.

I wonder the same thing. I don't necessarily believe rain is imminent until it begins raining because we've cancelled a day's worth of work when it's been 90% and have it not rain. But once it's rained once that day it tends to continue if forecast. Maybe the forecast showed more dry time in between outbursts that didn't pan out.

I am sure when I was a kid I didn't let a little thing like rain stop me but I am pretty sure my mother wouldn't have let me.

Riding your bike around the neighborhood is one thing. Some of these riders and the walker with the baby were a long way from home with no stores to stop in to get out of the weather. Not that I know where any of them lived but they weren't headed to any houses at the time.

I was caught in a terrible storm one day in June. I left home it was perfectly sunny, blue sky, warm. There was no warning of this on the TV weather channel.

We're you walking, Marlina? We're you able to find a dry haven until it quit? The forecast isn't always correct or we could say they are rarely right. But when it's been raining most of the day already with rain clouds overhead it would be a safe bet that the possibility of rain is greater.

No if my children were going out to bike or with someone that was taking them for a bike ride and it was raining, I would definitely say 'no'. Life is dangerous enough these days without adding even more obstacles. That's for sure.
