I was telling a friend i was going to try a peach crisp this weekend if I had time. She insisted I was making cobbler. I have never made it and thought it was more like a cake than fruit with oats/sugar on top. She keeps insisting it so I just replied whatever it's called with peaches

Wading into the argument here... a cobbler is made with flour whereas a crisp is made with oats. Whatever, they're both delicious.

You're right in that a crisp is usually fruit filling topped with oats, sugar and butter on top. A cobbler is fruit filling in a pie type of crust, usually baked in a pan like you'd do cornbread.
