It's been ten years and we're finally getting our porch/ramp painted

In the winter of 2007 my husband went into the hospital for the first time, and we discovered that he had no blood flow to his right leg. This was due to a blood clot in his thigh. A by-pass was done and the tissue looked good for a while but he had many complications and ended up losing that leg below his knee. Until the about he wasn't able to put weight on his right for for gangrene head set in. Our neighbors helped lift him from the house down the three steps the the ground and back up again which took making sure they were gone each time we had an appointment. We got a friend to build us the ramp later that spring and never had the extras funds to paint it until this year. We did pretty good matching the color with the brick and when it's finished I'll get a picture of it facing the house. I did a little painting this afternoon after returning from cleaning windows. We're trying to get the spindles done first and then will do the railing and finally the surface we walk on. We're hoping to be done before the leaves start falling. In these three views it's mostly the spindles that are painted and not much else.

@MarshaMusselman When painting outside this is the main problem. We need dry days.

I think we did pretty well picking out a matching color. Now we just need more dry days when we're not all working elsewhere.

It'll be a gift you've given yourself when it is all done.

It will be nice and then maybe the wood will stop splitting for a few years at least.

@celticeagle lol that doesn't stop normal wear and tear. I'm optimistic overall but we're still expected to keep things maintained for long-lasting results.

I'm sure it will take a few weeks yet depending on rain and time to work. I have time now but since it rained quite a few hours yesterday and it's cooler today we want to make sure it's dried thoroughly.

We just had our deck painted this year and we love the results, we added sand to the paint on the floor to make it less slippery.

We thought we'd have to add some but some paints come with grit right in them, so we're trying that this time.

It's a wonder that the wood hasn't warped or something. Look forward to seeing it when it's finished.

We had one board that did warp, curving upward it's the newer board in the top left picture. It was warped for several reasons and I was concerned someone would trip so I kept and old hanging basket near the warped board all year round. The basket had mainly dirt and weeds and whether any one why it was there, I don't know but no one ever tripped. We also have to replace a board on top that split and a free spindles were broken when a new screw was put in, but I don't plan on replacing those if ever. Out house needs more work than those spindles

pictures look nice. We don't have wooden porch here. We have the one with marble

A marble porch here would be too slick during the winter months of ice and snow. But possibly the porches there are inside or otherwise your weather never gets cold there to make walking on it near impossible. We did a job on one of the lakes one year in the winter and they had a deck surrounding the house on the lake side it was some type of hard plastic and we had to watch walking as we were sliding everywhere.

@MarshaMusselman I understand now why colder countries have wooden flooring. I think wooden flooring not only save you from slipping but also absorb the chilling winds in it. We have marble because it never snows here. It's hot place

Sorry to read about your husband's health problems. Yes, the wood should get better protection now.
