Is insanity in genes or are these mutants?

Have you ever known such stupidity? Students using swords and hanging out of buses? Chennai is supposed to be filled with most intelligent people in the country. And we have such specimens there as well. Where are we going wrong in bringing up kids?
CHENNAI: The menace of students of one city college or the other ‘terrorising’ road-users just doesn’t seem to stop.

Insanity is in genes...it requires proper environment to flourish and today these genes have absolutely nice environment to flourish, the place where from the most intelligent people hail has also got inflicted with today's environment which encourages such insanity! I feel bad about prevailing situation, may it be genetic or influenced by the environment!

It sure looks like it...that was shocking...a few days before there was a girl trying some stunts in Mumbai locals. What are they trying to prove? Is it the effect of movies like Krish?

I don't know about "genes", but I think the younger generation is more accepting of "stupid" things. Tools like YouTube have allowed more people to have their few moments of fame . . . many doing stupid things to get attention and the sad part is stupid people are willing to watch these stupid antics. It's like some sick hobby or past time !

Is it a case of "Look I have been so stupid"..."Hey wait, I am stupider than you"...?

This is height of it...the person behind them must fear that the sword will be hurled at them. From where are they learning such stupid things.

There are no laws for that.. because there are no precedents.

@MALUSE The problem here is laws are in English. 90 percent of the lawyers are not good with English. Moreover, unlike in the west, lawyers here are desperate for clients. So they are Jacks of all trade, Aces of none. They take up the case and take ages to go through relevant sections. Fees being low, they have to take up more cases so they agree to everything that the client says whether they know it to be actionable or not. Fees is collected upfront so they know the client is going nowhere.

@vandana7 Laws are general, not precise. The word sword doesn't have to be mentioned in a law. I'm sure that you have a law against causing public nuisance and endangering people and traffic with your behaviour

Wow! I'd be in a panic too if someone were on a bus with a sword. That isn't allowed in the US.

I hope so too. This kind of thing needs to be punished, and punished harshly so that the next person does not resort to such things.

@vandana7 I fully agree, the punishment must be a warning for the others.

When I see things like this happening I can't help thinking that a couple of compulsory years of National Service (military etc,) would sort them out.

I could not agree more with you and have long advocated that...it makes people healthy and disciplined apart from able to defend themselves or the country at any time. India desperately needs such measures.

These days, lots of kids from good families, decide to be copy cats doing bad things. They learned from watching youtube or whatever it is from the internet.

I think they just want to be noticed in social media...but that's not the right way to express it, and they choose it to be so they have to suffer the consequences of their wrong doings... We have also here when some kids uploaded a video on social media, making fool of our President while smoking MJ...but when arrested, how they cried and make sorry for what they did...Kids today? I don't know if it has to do with what you're asking...but it is not too late..they should turn to God...and do things which are pleasing to God and not to men...

I think much of it has to do with mothers working? In the past, most ladies were housewives. Suddenly the generation finds liberties at school and liberties at home. They are kind of free birds till mothers return from offices, and mothers are often too tired to be able to monitor their activities, what with Internet being around making monitoring difficult. To top it all, they also feel guilty that they are not giving sufficient attention to their kids, so tend to relieve their conscience by indulging their kids with expensive toys. Just saying...this might be the reason. But it does not seem to be the case always. Most of the gangrapes in our country are done by economically weaker sections...meaning it could be rage against the gender for usurping the jobs that could have come to them or progressing faster. In this case, it is pure stupidity...insanity...

It is shocking. Whenever I go to some parent counseling and workshop, I face this one question every now and then. Parents would proudly say "Mam these are millennium children and they are so different". I always ask them to ponder "Are children different in this generation or the childhood has become different?" Many answers will come if you do a pondering over the question.

I think childhood has changed. For one, Internet has become inseparable part of children's lives. Second thing and this is crucial ..we have really expanded in population, leaving no room for our kids to go out and play the games that would work their hormones. Our social systems have also crumbled. In the past, there were somethings that children did at home, for their parents and grandparents. In the past we climbed stairs. I know I climbed my first office stairs. Now, the issue is children only use lifts. When I was a kid, I carried mattress up the stairs to sleep out. Now we have air conditioners. And finally, we have working women. In the past, people were careful with their monies. Now people are fine with splurging, and children think it is ok.

@vandana7 That is the point. Children are still the same but the modern childhood does not meet their developmental needs and we see such behaviors.
