How Many Times Should One Marry to Have a Successful Married Life?

My neighbor Mr. Dey is of the opinion that quite many first marriages fail but the second ones turn out to be successful. He has reasons to say so. His son got married first but had to divorce his first wife and married a second time. Mr.Dey's daughter's first marriage, a love marriage, failed but her second marriage to a divorcee seems to be working fine. Of course, the experience of the first marriage gives lessons; but is it necessary to go through a failed marriage to have a successful marred life? Some people perhaps need more! Three or four.

There is something definitely wrong with the upbringing! How can son and daughter both have failed first marriage? In India more than 90% successful marriages are first ones and they are leading happily! How about you? How many time you got married dear friend? Are you happy with your married life?

Second marriages last mostly because people don't repeat the mistakes they have done innocently in their first marriage.

For me I am a bit conservative, I would like to have the first marriage the last one. I think a couple could work out their problems without having to go thru divorce and remarrying. But if the marriage is indeed not making it work then I guess that would be the last option to be considered.

If you do not succeed the first time, never do it again

Some people marry, divorce then end up remarrying. I guess they both grow and mature in the meantime.

Agree with you. In the cases of Dey's children this could be true.

For me 1 was more than sufficient to understand not to risk again for successful married life.

I don't think the number of marriages has much to do with happiness, except that sometimes people are too young the first time. My husband and I were very young, really much too young to even know what marriage was all about, but we've been married 52 years. Not all of them have been wonderful, but we wouldn't trade us for anyone else.

Maybe they need to be around each other for a longer time before getting married.

I don't know. My mom was married a few times and the earlier ones ended because of abuse. My grandmother was married quite a few times - and most of those ended because of abuse. I'm married once and still married. I am my husband's second wife - he divorced the first one ages ago because she was unfaithful . So really, I don't think its a matter of "learning with the first marriage being a trial". Its more or less, people should be decent human beings and get married because they can be a decent human being with someone who they love, respect, and will cherish.

I don't know. It could be once. I know people who married once and they are very happy.
