A birthday party (and a hurricane?)

Our son is 51 today. How can that be, seeing that I'm not much older than that myself. This is a very profound statement: You can never be younger than your oldest child. Very deep thought. Anyway, I've got most of the birthday dinner going and hope to eat around 6pm when my husband and son get back from a golf game. My grandson Nathan is here, so he'll help me with the rest of the meal. We're having pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli casserole, corn, deviled eggs, a tossed green salad, garlic bread, sweet tea, and a butterscotch pie with candles on top. Our son will open gifts after that. Now for the hurricane. It appears that Hurricane Florence is headed our way. We were planning to go to Myrtle Beach next week for a few days, then on to our daughter's in Charleston SC. Our 9 year old grandson is supposed to be baptized on Sunday, so I really hate to miss that. If the weather is very bad, they'll postpone it and hopefully, we can go the next time. But unless that storm turns out to sea, I think we'll be staying home to get ready. The path looks to be from NC, through SC, GA, and part of Florida. My husband was really looking forward to the NASCAR driving experience in Myrtle Beach where he would get to drive a few laps in a real race car. But we can always do that another time. Please pray for everyone in the path of the storm that God will protect homes, businesses, and especially lives. Until then, we'll party this afternoon and remember that early morning so many years ago when our first child was born. When he arrived and I knew he was healthy, it was one of the most joyous moments of my life. My husband was still in the Navy in Hawaii (I was already in NC), so with the time difference, when I called him that our baby had arrived, he actually knew about the birth late on Sept 7, even though the baby was born early on the 8th! Two weeks later, my husband got out of the Navy, came to NC and here we still are. God is good.

It boggles my mind that your husband knew about the birth on September 7 although the baby wasn't born till the 8th. It seems unbelievable. And I hope the hurrican bypasses you.

I pray the hurricane turns out to sea or at least, weakens. The account of my husband being in a different time zone when our son was born has become a family story that's usually told on our son's birthday.

Thank you for all the good wishes! We'll reschedule the race car drive for another weekend. I forgot to mention in the post that we were also planning to be at our 9 year old's baptism on Sunday. I really hate to miss that, but if the weather is too bad, it will be rescheduled also.

Happy birthday to your son. I hope everyone enjoys the dinner, and he does the gifts. Be careful out there. Glad you're still together. Doesn't happen often anymore.

I'm thankful we're still married, but it hasn't been easy. But most marriages have problems.

@1creekgirl all marriages, and even regular relationships do. Its the working through them and still loving one another that is great.

@1creekgirl Nope, missed the entire eastern part of the state, not even a drop of rain.

@1creekgirl Congrats on his birthday. i also hope that the hurricane does not come your way. I have a friend that left where she lives because it was coming in her direction and went to Florida. I hope it does not go where she is in Florida.

Thank God the hurricane has come and gone, for the most part. There's still some flooding in some places, but hopefully that will be gone soon also. Is your friend okay?

@1creekgirl Thank for asking about my friend. Last I heard she was ok. She left the area and went somewhere else. I am glad it is gone but the aftermath of it leaves lots of cleaning up to do. I am sorry about the flooding. That is a real mess.

I see NC is the area predicted for the Hurricane to make land. It seems the Outer Banks and Nags Head, (a beautiful area I have visited) are always susceptible to hurricanes. Wishing you and your family a enjoyable get together in celebrating your son's b-day.

Thanks, it was an enjoyable meal and get together. I'm praying the hurricane will turn out to sea or at least weaken. The Outer Banks really are beautiful.
