Power Off/Power On

I mentioned in an earlier post (at least I think I did) that we lost power yesterday at about 530pm. Internet continued working for a few more hours and then it quit.
The power came back on around 4:30pm this afternoon.
It is still raining, but the wind has reduced speed considerably. Our worry now, in certain parts of the county, is river flooding. It won't affect us here but many of my friends will be or have been forced from their homes.
I have heard from all my family closer to the coast and they are doing well. No power yet, but above the flood waters. One sister is sharing her generator with my parents next door to her, so they are in good shape.
Some areas are still getting rain and wind. I pray for those folks. I hope all my myLot friends affected by this storm or any other are doing okay.
If you weren't in the way of a storm today, how did you spend your time?

Glad you have power again and all are safe. I spent part of the day at an auction them working in my corn patch

@wolfgirl569 Every summer I wait for the sweet corn to hit the farm stands and try to buy some every week until it runs out. The earliest is always the best.

@DWDavis The indian corn looks good. I tried a new sweet corn that is not going to make. I thought I had it planted early enough but it just tasseled this past week. So I know it wont have time to make ears before we get too cold here. I guess I need to start it inside next year for an earlier start.

I am glad to hear you are safe and sound as is your family. Today was the first day that if rained in the afternoon here in Daytona Beach otherwise all the days were hot and sunny and it seemed so strange that the Carolinas had had a hurricane.

@DWDavis not a good situation one way or another. Wish the hurricanes would leave all of us alone.

I am glad you and your family are all safe.
We are okay here. We've had rain and winds but not nearly as bad as other areas. I'm not sure if any areas of our county are flooded, but I'm sure some of the low lying areas are.

@DWDavis I haven't been keeping up with the radar. I do check the temperature, current state of precipitation and the wind though.

@Juliaacv The extent of the damage from wind inland isn't as bad as we feared, but the coast has been devastated. My hometown of Wilmington had taken a heavy hit, and the beach I grew up on, Wrightsville Beach, may be mostly gone. The city of New Bern, at least the part near the Neuse River, has been wrecked. Now we are watching the rivers rise to record flood levels and people are losing their homes and businesses.
I'm glad that my area didn't get hurt as badly as expected, but some area will be years recovering, if ever.

Some are being allowed to return today or in the next couple of days. For some it may be a week or more. Still others, who didn't have to evacuate for the storm, are now evacuating ahead of the river flooding taking place across the state.

It was almost at this time last year that I was dealing with Hurricane Irma as it passed through Florida, and the year before that it was Hurricane Matthew. I can relate to everything you guys are all going through up there, and I hope everyone is staying safe. Now that the storm is slowly moving on out, the tough part begins, and that is the cleanup and rebuilding of communities and lives. Just know that all of America is behind you and will be there to help out.

@moffittjc I know the coast can use all the help it can get. Wilmington is completely cut off by ground and can only be reached by boat or helicopter. I still don't know how bad things are on Wrightsville Beach or Carolina Beach.
If y'all come, please let your colleagues know how much it means to us.

@DWDavis I'm on the disaster recovery team for my city, and our city officials are going to meet today to decide if they need to mobilize our team and send us to the Carolinas to aid in the recovery efforts. We've already sent utility crews and first responders. It warms my heart to see people joining together to help each other.

Here where I live power shedding is normal. Come summer we have hours everyday without power. But we have installed a home UPS that takes care fans, lights, tv and the computer.

@DWDavis Many have generators here but this Home UPS serves the purpose Fridges can live up to 12 hours without current and load shedding is not that long
Strange that US talks of places having no electricity

My wife and I have talked of getting a generator to keep the fridge and some lights on when storms hit. We always seem to talk ourselves out of it. Now, though, we may be getting one, not because of the storm, but because we want to be able to camp in places where we can take our camper that don't have electricity. Ironic, no.

@allknowing We are a spoiled population when it comes to our electricity. When it goes out, most of us are at a loss for what to do. Thankfully, between my military training and Scout training, I am used to living off the grid for days at a time if I have to.

Some parts both is country had a terrible weekend because of the typhoon. There were a lot of damages and a few deaths last I heard.
However, in my place, at the moment I'm having ga fine weather day. WE didn't experience the super typhoon at all..

We are hiding from the storm, so no trips outside except for quick pet walks. We still have power, but many don't!

@LadyDuck The sad thing is, some areas have only just finished cleaning up from the floods two years ago from Hurricane Matthew and now they've been flooded again. Our government moves so slow that some folks who still haven't received aid to rebuild after Matthew are seeing what they have managed to recover washed away a second time.

Glad you have your power back and hope it doesn't go out again. Even happier to hear your family is okay.
We have sunshine today so my daughter and I went out and ran a few errands.

I am glad your family is ok. It's just sad the effects that a storm can have. We were on Katrina, and I never saw such devastating effects it had. We are all praying for the victims.

Glad to know that your family is safe. We have experienced nonstop rain accompanied by howling winds the other day. The power went out for a couple of hours and it was restored the next day. Gladly, the super typhoon is now out of the PAR (Philippine Area of Responsibility).
