What Age are You Going to Retire?

In my work, you may retire at age 60 if you wish to, but the compulsary age is 65. You will be entitled to lumpsum benefit and monthly pension. A lady officemate just passed away at age 50, another guy coworker at age 45 and still another at age 41. A few others died immediately after retirement. Today, one has money but less time, in the future one may have time and money, but no more health or life force. What is your plan regarding retirement? Do we really just waste away our youth to work to exchange for salary? Or do you enjoy your work that you don't mind staying there until 65? Will it get boring or more enjoyable when we retire? Millenials have come up with semi-retirement or mini-retirement.

You must set your mindset into investments. Set your goals by asking questions or challenging or dare yourself. Like a truth or dare. Examples: Why are you working? For what reasons. And, your answer is for retirement. Is it? Yeah, that is boring really. For the best and more challenging for the question of why you are working, because you are going to investments. I'm 46 now, an unemployed. Working my luck with investments now. Earning thru online jobs. Not much compares to employed in a company. Though I worked for a company for more 10 years. Got really bored and set out to create my own business, but it never happened. It is hard and complicated. But, still going to work online, so I can have investment and to have the capital for my business. And, follow my dreams.

I'm glad you shared your thoughts with us. And you are right, I have lost purpose in my current work. But have to keep going for financial reasons. I read about 4% rule of retirement. But at the rate I'm going, I'm never going to reach it lol.

@yoalldudes Yeah it is alright for to get bored. That is fine. But you have to set goals like a ladder of successions. Do self-personal assessments or evaluation of what you can do or can't do. What are your dreams in life? And, to have more interesting in your current work is to challenge yourself with these questions. Why I'm working? What is the purpose? And, the answer is to invest in the stock market. So, you can achieve your personal goal or dreams in life. You have been working not only for your retirement. The main purpose of why you are working is to have an investment like in the stock market and other investments as well. Have you heard or read about Bo Sanchez's book? About how his maid became a millionaire. By investing in the stock market.

@gjabaigar I have heard it and have started investing in stock market as well. Although I'd wish to become a millionaire like Bo Sanchez's maid lol.

I enjoy my work, my officemates and the place where I work. I am thinking of working until I still can. But if our daughter would be stable enough as a doctor and would want us to stay with her then I will already retire. I am now more than a year short for the retirement age of 60. But I still feel happy working.

I am working as a Resident Vet on a stud farm. Since it is a private organiztion, we are not retired from our job. The more experience you have the more you are desired by the farms , my college was above 80 when he got retired 2 years back!

I think we just need to balance it. And we just need to create our own source of income. I mean we should put up businesses or learn how to invest. I am trying to save money for bank investment soon. I think people die early if they don't know how to enjoy life properly, and how to take care of themselves. God is generous you know.

@yoalldudes I totally AGREE!!! On my previous company they are actually thinking of lessening the days of work in a week, so employees can be with their families. Because young kids are dying... We are from graveyard shift before.

You must be working in the public sector because your compulsory retirement age is 65 and not 60.

@yoalldudes Sometimes they extend the retirement age for executives or those with managerial positions who are very valuable to the company. Others even rehire retirees as consultants.

Well there is no retirement in my job as I can do it from my home. But my health has to allow me to work with special needs children as it needs a lot of energy. I can stick to counseling and training. My mentor worked till she was 86 and that kept her active and live. She is 93 , has restricted mobility now but she still keeps herself busy with translating Montessori books into different Indian language. She can speak, read and write 25 languages. An incredible lady!!

@yoalldudes It all depends on our situation. I can afford to take a break from my work because my husband is in a good position and is financially sound. I work for passion and independence. But the scenario might not be same for all or it might change for me in future if something goes wrong. So we take our own call depending on what we are sailing through.

In my workplace I am eligible to avail of early retirement but that is if the company will approve it. As much as I want it I like to retire now even though I will have to pay taxes but it’s still is with my employer if they will allow me. Sometimes I think that retiring early on is best to enjoy your senior years. Many do retire at 60 but physically they do not have time to enjoy life anymore because life was spent on work. Their strength was all used up to their employer. I do not want that to happen.

My retirement age is not my own decision. We now have a retirement age of 60 for men and 55 for women.

That is also my target age for living my day. But as of now I'm really burnt out, exhausted. I hope I can get a few months leave of absence.
