We are all aware that work related stress causes illnesses, even death. I am referring more on the other side of the coin. If you love your work so much and dedicate your life to it, will it make you live longer from the satisfaction and fulfillment?

@yoalldudes well, if you are at peace and you know that it is your time, I think somehow you will die happy then. But if you are not prepared for that event, then that would be a different story maybe

I think most diseases or sickness our body receives are primarily due to stress. It could come from work or from your personal life and so we cannot really put into blame that work alone can bring disease or sickness alone. It is a combination of both work and personal way of handling you life in general.

@yoalldudes That is why employers do not easily accept that it is their fault when an employee gets sick because the cause of it may not just be cause by them but also the personal lifestyle of the employee itself. They can extend help by providing us health insurances and other benefits but they will never accept it is their fault alone that they got sick.

Yes, it does. It goes both ways. Work can add years to one's life and it can also shorten one's life.

I think that if we are happy and contented with our work and productive with it, it would not cause us worries and by being happy, we're not vulnerable to stress related health problems. I just wish that there are work out there in reality that is not exhausting.

The lawmakers can make changes in length of working hours, pay etc. But generally the economy dictates it right?

@yoalldudes They could if they want but they're more adherent to the call of businessmen rather that the working people. Imagine that, with only little increase of salary, most likely businessmen would complain even if they still have enough profit. They would even threaten to shutdown if a law was passed about compensation and tax reforms. As if they do not get the lion shares of the income generated.

I think as long as it's not too much work, work will be good for our health because it will make us live a regular life.

When I buy something, I look at the saleslady and feel really bad because I know what it feels like to work the 9-5 and more.

While a work that you love can add more happy years to your life, a stressful work will definitely take a toll on your health and the quality of life.
