Before publishing a discussion do you think about how much interaction it will get?

When I write a discussion I just write about whatever it is that comes into my head at the moment or I want to share. I don't stop and ask myself "will a lot of people reply to this?" before I publish something. I just do it and hope that I will get some interaction on it, preferably with more than just a few responses... I prefer many responses of course because getting no responses or just one or two of them makes the discussion "dead". Although I realized the other day, thanks to another mylotter, that you can have a lengthy conversation going in a discussion within a single response thread. So, while it may only be one response the conversation can still keep on going and going and going. Before you write and publish your discussion do you think about whether it will garner a lot of responses? And though there is no guarantee of it happening, do you only write those discussions that you think will get a lot of interaction?

I don't 'think' that a certain post will get many responses. I hope it. Yet, I've erred so often that I've given up more or less. Posts on which I've worked for some time and which I consider brilliant bomb and shallow ones written on the fly flourish.

@lovebuglena Think of the reaction on a 'What I had for breakfast' post and a book review and you know that I speak the truth! Not all of my book reviews have reached 10 reads. If I write on breakfast or a topic concerning myLot proper, 10 reads are easily reached.

@MALUSE Seems usually anything to do with mylot or online earnings will get many responses. And what someone had for breakfast/lunch/dinner too.

It may not be the case all the time, but it does seem like "on the fly" posts do better than thought out ones, which we've actually spent a good deal of time writing.

I don't write for a lot of responses. If they happen, great. I write because I want to and to let you all know what's going on with me.

@lovebuglena No, they wouldn't, and they only write one line sentences and about a dozen of those an hour expecting they will earn a lot by writing a lot. That's not how it goes here. You need interaction and a good post people will want to respond to.

I think that's the way to do it. For someone who is here solely for the money they may not agree.

Good grief no. Have you seen my discussions about songs from musicians nobody's ever heard from? Gotta make my own kind of music (thanks, Mama Cass) and write my own kind of discussions.

I write on those I feel I need to share with others with a view to seeking their responses. Sometimes, I get very few responses but at times even one go back and forth - siva

I think it is good when even a small amount of persons find the discussion interesting enough to carry on a lengthy conversation.

@lovebuglena I've seen some with over 100. The more we do the more we get.

20 is a pretty high number of responses to get. I think I've seen discussions that had 40-50 responses.

I don't really think about whether or not it's going to generate a discussion. I use MyLot as a blog/journal, so I just make sure it's within the rules and post it lol. If it doesn't get any interaction, I just move on to the next one. :)

@lovebuglena I pick and choose what I share on here. I wouldn't share anything I wouldn't want the public to see. :)

Using mylot as a journal is actually a good idea, as long as you don't mind that it is public for all to see.

When I think my discussion will get more responses it get less and when I think it will get less responses it get more than what I expected.

I try not to post anything too obscure but generally I find it very difficult to predict how many responses a discussion will get on here.

I write about whatever I want really but those discussions I think might be popular rarely are and some that I think are very 'ordinary' sometimes generate a lot of responses.

We can never know how many responses we will get. We can only predict the number.

No, I don't. I would be lucky to have many comments in a post.

Same here... There are times when I write something and get a feeling it will not get much responses but I post it anyway.

@lovebuglena Yes,I expect to receive a lot of responses on a discussion that I write by heart, but often my expectations don't come true.
