Something not about the hurricane that just passed our way

@TheHorse asked a question this weekend about after school snacks and what type we might have had. I mentioned popcorn was a snack I enjoyed after school. The Horse mentioned he liked popcorn but never seemed to have any around the house. In his honor, I offer the following video I took this afternoon when I got home from my optional teacher workday at school. I hope you all enjoy the light salty treat.
Just for something besides hurticane vids

I have a hot air corn popper that comes out whenever the grandkids visit. I've even made popcorn for hubby and I to enjoy.

@TheHorse Coke is fine, but you need to hurry. The popcorn is almost gone. I set aside a bag for you, but my missus has been eyeing it hungrily.

We air popped for a long time, but after the last one burned out we did the microwave popcorn for a while. I decided I'd rather have a more old fashioned popper. Air popped popcorn never really appealed to me.

What time are you making it today? Is Coke too unhealthy to bring by?

That's cute. I still go the primitive way: I grab a pan, a lid, a little oil and some corn and flip a burner on to pretty high. Pretty soon the corn starts to pop. Now I'm hungry for some.

What you describe is the popcorn I grew up with. I also remember making Jiffy Pop and watching the aluminum dome unfold as it popped.

@DWDavis Ah, that takes me back to my childhood years. OK. Where can I get some popcorn that I can make in a saucepan with a plate on top?

@TheHorse dollar tree sells like ten different brands of just the kernels. It's in a one of two pound bag.

@DWDavis To tell you the truth, I really didn't know you could still buy them. I know when I had mine, it made some real good popcorn. Then like so many other's, I got rid of it and started using the microwave.

@sweetashoney I got the idea while working at the concession stand at the middle school I formerly taught at. The popcorn from the popper there was so much better than microwaved or air popped - at least to me - that I searched for a traditional popper and discovered this one. Then it was a matter of hinting what a great present it would make if someone wanted to give it to me.

A couple of years ago, I grew tired of microwave popcorn and air popped popcorn and asked for this type of popper for Christmas. My wife and sons happily obliged.

One of my favorites is jiffy pop. But we often just grab a brown paper lunch sack and drop a little bit in it then pop it in the microwave anymore. Then melt butter and eat.

I've never tried microwaving regular kernels in a lunch sack. Does it require any oil in the sack or can you make it dry?

@wolfgirl569 I'm thinking I might try it when we go camping. We have a microwave in our camper. I know, really roughing it, right.

@DWDavis You do it dry, just cover the bottom of the sack then fold over. Hubby just uses the popcorn button on our microwave for time. But watch the first time as yours might be a little different. Cheaper than buying the microwave popcorn.

Well, that sure make me hungry. Can I add some butter and a bit of salt?

You certainly may add butter. I've already added seasoning. I sprinkle my popcorn with Lowry's Seasoning Salt.

@DWDavis Which popcorn should I get? Which kind works best on a stove top? For a rookie?

@TheHorse I prefer Orville Redenbacher. It pops up the best and leaves behind the fewest unpopped kernels.

I'll have to speak to their agent. You wouldn't believe the demands they make every time I try to make a video of them.

@DWDavis I would be willing to bribe them with liver treats and butt scratches.

@thislittlepennyearns Ace says that if you throw in an hour a day of tossing his stuffed squirrels so he can chase them then you have a deal.

My light snacks are having some fruits like grapes or a cantaloupe. I like this kind of fast food, wash and eat.

My wife and I snack on cantaloupe and grapes now and then. I've even been known to eat an apple as long as it is in the company of some peanut butter.

I know we're in the minority but Vince and I don't like popcorn. I can't even stand the smell. At least we save money at the movies though not much as we have chocolate instead.

I have lost my sweet tooth sometime in the past few years. These days, I prefer peanuts and popcorn.
