Couldn't take my eyes off the bakery shop display window and next thing I knew...

Many years ago I went on a two week vacation to Italy.
I was sightseeing in Rome one day...
As I was walking along a street I saw a beautiful display in a bakery shop window.
It looked so good that I couldn't take my eyes off it.
I kept on staring at the window as I walked picturing myself biting into all that goodness.
Next thing I knew, I banged right into a metal pole in the middle of the street and hit my face against it.
Good thing I had my sun glasses on.
I think they helped prevent a big bruise on my face.

My mom walked into a store window once. I guess it was so clean she didn't realize it was a window.

Yep. That can definitely happen. I've seen many people walk down the street, even crossing it, with their eyes and attention glued to their smart phones. I've also seen some people do that with a book in their hands, instead of a phone. These things may not end well. One time, a girl was almost hit by a car when she was crossing the street while looking at her smart phone.
