A couple of days ago I got up feeling diizzy not something I have ever experienced. Am on BP medication but when I checked my blood pressure it was pretty high. I called up my doctor and he prescribed a slightly higher dose and said that what I was given earlier was very low. He cautioned me that seniors should check their blood pressure atleast once a week. I have a blood pressure monitor thankfully. He said this sudden rise in bp could result in a stroke. Looking at my neighbour who is bed ridden because of a stroke did send shivers down my spine. I will from now on check my bp regularly. The main cause is said to be salt consumption. I will cut down on that too.

Having a stroke would be really bad news. I feel so sorry for those who lose their speech when they have a stroke.

My neighbour has many issues. He can walk about with a prop but his speech is impaired. A physiotherapist visits him every day. If there is money there is hope situation can improve but not fully.

I check my BP every week, sometimes I feel dizzy in the morning because mine is a bit too low. Salt is hidden in so many foods we buy, especially canned food.

If your BP is low then you can binge on salt I think.

@allknowing I avoid too much salt even if I do not have a BP problem. It also causes water retention and this is not good.

My blood pressure was a bit high when I had my check up with my relatives last week end. That was very surprising. I agree with you maybe I am going cut more on salt consumption.

@allknowing There are other causes of stroke besides blood pressure. An embolism going to the brain will cause a stroke. But you are wise to want lower blood pressure. It is better for your overall health.

It is the stroke fear that we should be concerned. BP is the cause for it

Talk to your doc about that salt thing. Many scientists think it is not as bad as once thought. There are many causes. Maybe look at the Mayo Clinic website.

I have full trust in my doctor and I do look at info on the Net. It is more than proved that salt intake does increase fluid in one's body.

I cut out salt many years ago. If they have Mrs. Dash seasonings there, it's a great alternative to salt.

We have snacks that contain a lot of salt. I was eating those chickpeas that are supposed to be good for health but had salt in them. I will now look for unsalted roasted chickpeas.

@just4him I did some search but I have not come across unsalted without the skin. I wonder if the skin is ok to eat.

When one already has high blood pressure - sugar and sweet - not only salt - will raise it even higher. Moderation in everything is key.

My mother who had a stroke last December 7, is until now in the recovery period. SHe still cannot speak. Though she laugh out loud now with a sound. Her paralized part now can feel pain. It's really hard to have a stroke. So, we should all be cautioned, although, I am not a senior yet. More than a year more before that.

Many of your herbs will help with blood pressure. I check mine daily when I check my glucose levels. Mine has been high on waking the last two days and that is not good.

My doctor says blood pressure can increase if there is too much salt in one's diet and those tablets will not help at that time. It is therefore necessary that it is checked periodically.

Prevention is better than cure, what you are doing is the right thing to do. Seniors should be conscious not only with blood pressure but also sugar and cholesterol.

It is indeed a killer specially the first thing that affects are the kidneys, Once a medicine for high BP is prescribed one needs to take it forever.
