Nights with no end.

I wish I could sleep straight through the night, instead I find myself waking up at least seven times during the night. I would check the time, sigh and fall back asleep almost immediately - the longest I remain awake would be 15 minutes.
I have no idea what is causing my sleep interruptions - I sleep alone, so there is no snoring partner to disturb my rest. Granted, I jump out of bed at 5 a.m. feeling very refreshed, because I haven't really lost any sleep. It's the interruptions that bother me.
Do you have a problem sleeping straight through the night? Any suggestions for sound sleep? Maybe my problem is that I dislike sleeping altogether. Do you like sleeping?.

A cousin of mine told me she was using a certain pain killer for her leg - and it made her very drowsy so she didn't go out after taking it. At night it made her sleep like a log. However after a few weeks of using it she developed a problem with her eyes and decided to stop using it.

I wake up at least two times during the night, but I do take a natural sleep aid that keeps waking at a minimum for me. It is called L-tryptophan, available online and at health food stores. 500 mg. helps me get to sleep and stay asleep longer with no side effects.

Oh yes. I wake up several times a night. I've tried various “remedies”. I was born in EST, Eastern Standard Time zone. Had no problems with sleeping. When we moved to El Paso, I moved across 2 different time zones. At that time I was seeing a doctir who was prescribing certain meds. I told him that I was mentally alert in my mind even though my eyes were closed. He gave me more meds.
I am not on those meds not. But my sleep cycle went wacky in El Paso and it has never returned to normal. I don't even feel sleepy. You know? That wonderful feeling of drowsiness and your eylelids get heavy and you can hardly keep them open? That doesn't happen for me. I just put my head on the pillow because my body and mid are weary and say to myself 'You'll go to sleep eventually.'
Every once in a while I kind of like it when I get the flu or a virus. It gives me an excuse to take NyQuill. Man! That stuff knocks you out! I know they have something called ZQuill. It's supposed to be like NyQuill only it's just the stuff that makes you sleep. I took a generic form of it. It doesn't work near as good as the original NyQuill. But I don't get sick that often. So I don't take NyQuill that often. I've just accepted waking up several times during the night as a “normal” sleep pattern.

@Kandae11 - It's been years now. The times that I have felt drowsiness have been few and far in between. On those times it has been a trying day or days, and my body and mind have just been worn out by the stress of an event (such as my husband having a heart attack). I never realized how wonderful it was to feel drowsy until I stopped feeling it.

You never feel drowsy? what if you're awake for 24 hours ?- drowsiness is bound to overtake you. I don't think the pills are advisable, but a few more healthy options have been mentioned in the comments here. I would probably be awake all night if I ever drank beverages with caffeine.

@cintol I usually get in bed at 8.30 or 9 - then I read or watch a movie and fall asleep at 10. Then the countdown starts from 12.30 or thereabouts - I wake up, check the time, then go back to sleep, over and over until 5.30 when I happily jump out of bed.

Honestly, I take a half a sleeping pill every night so I can get about 5 hours sleep, I have so much on my mind. Sleep is the only time I have peace of mind lately. I hope you figure out why you keep surfacing throughout the night.

I've always required at least 8 hours of sleep, but since having Fibromyalgia, it's been difficult to sleep well. I have spells of doing good with an over-the-counter sleeping pill, then have spells of waking up all through the night. I'm sure you've tried all the usual advice like having your room cool, no caffeine near bed time, a dark room, and a
comfortable bed and pillow. I recently started wearing a light weight sleeping mask and it has really helped me to sleep later. It keeps the sun from waking me even though I have dark shades.

@Kandae11 I've read that it helps to not have a clock in your bed room, or at least not one with a really bright display.

I'm finding I don't like sleeping as I will try to find a reason to stay up later at night. Though I do like a morning nap. I get up a minimum of once a night and sometimes as much as three. It's rare when I sleep through the night.

I sleep like a baby. I am so tired. If I don't go to bed in time, the bed comes to me wherever I am.

I love sleeping but I have to get up just about once every hour to go use the bathroom. I always look at the time to see what time it is. I go back to bed and fall asleep again until it is time to go to the bathroom again. It is a pain but life could be worse. The only way to stop it is not to drink any water but I think that would cause worse problems.

My friends told me to exercise in the afternoon or before bed time so that I can sleep well. As of this writing, I feel groogy because I only have 3 hours of sleep last night and just took a nap in the afternoon.

I sometimes awake once during the night, turn over, and get almost immediately back to sleep. But I can't imagine waking seven times. It must be maddening.

I also experience sleeping interruption but not that long. Sometimes, I fall back asleep and some did not anymore. Your biological clock perhaps is use to it.
I did not get enough sleep last night because the rain is very strong and it keeps me awake until this morning.
