Do you have relatives or friends who when they call on the phone, they are big talkers and it is hard to end the conversation, and not only that , the big talker is one who forgets what they say in previous conversations, so they end up repeating themselves and you can hardly get a word in? When the person calls, you know it will be an hour or more long conversation and when they call, you just say "yes" and let them talk and talk? Well, that happened to me earlier today. I thought, "oh goodness, how long will this phone call last". I had things to do around the house. When, my relative started really talking and not letting me talk, I got an idea. My idea was , let me see if I can do some housework with 1 hand. I have my phone to my ear with my left hand, let me see if I can do things with just my right hand. And guess what? I made two beds with one hand, folded one shirt and put it in the drawer with one hand and put on a load of laundry and put the soap in and started the clothes washer with one hand and put some dishes into the dishwasher all with my 1 (right) hand. This all was accomplished as my relative talked on and on about an event she has already told me 3 or 4 times. She forgets easily.

I know a lot of people don't like texts, but I like them because I also have trouble understanding on the phone.

Oh yes, I have those, haha. I actually have to set aside time to talk with them. The rest of the time (fortunately) my phone doesn't get service. How lucky am I. I used to have a friend I could just lay the phone down and do whatever I wanted for a good half hour without having to interact at all. I'd pick up the phone and she'd still be talking. I'd say uh hu and lay it down again. I honestly do not believe she EVER caught on.

My Uncle. When he calls I have to prepare because it takes hours. Not just one hour but almost two hours. And if the call gets cut, he would call again. And he calls regularly too, like once a week.

I have a sister in law who also is a big talker. Usually it will be a two hour conversation when I talk to her on the phone and she does most of the talking.

I've written a post on how I deal with the problem.
I'm not writing about calls from call centres in which young men with smooth voices try to talk you into buying shares for copper mines in Chile or wheat in...

Next time lay the phone down and put it on speaker, that way you have the use of both hands and you can still hear what they have to say, thats what I do. lol

OMG you won't make me do that, I'd rather master " The art of how to cut an unwanted conversation " than " The art of how to do things with one had while on the phone"

I have been known to let those go to voice mail and I call them when it is more convenient for me to just listen. Other times I have put a person on speaker so I could have both hands

I've done the same thing before! Or if I'm on hold on the phone, I'll put it on speaker and do other things while I'm waiting. In the mornings when I fix my husband his second cup of coffee, I put it in the microwave for 30 seconds. It amazes me when I see all I can do in 30 seconds.

Yes I have a friend that know will be a marathon phone call so I put the phone on speaker and take it with me as I do my thing as she chats endlessly. I get my stuff done while we chat

This is when speaker comes in handy. Although, I would've gotten off the phone if it was the same old thing and not a fun or sad and needed 20mins+ call.
