Another Phone Scam

United States
September 21, 2018 5:47pm CST
When I was out this afternoon someone left a message on my voice mail. It went something like this... If you don't call us back we're seizing your bank account. They didn't leave a name to call back, but they did provide a number. Now I'm thinking they didn't specifically ask for me by name when they called so how do I know I'm the person they're looking for. They didn't offer any other information but I guess just the thought of someone seizing my bank account would panic me into calling them back. Nope...I just deleted the message.

Like the call I had from "revenue Canada" that unless I called right away the police would arrest me for tax fraud. Delete....

@Marilynda1225 when those calls come at a vulnerable moment we can all momentarily question them. When we take the time think it though we are some aware that it's a scam,

There are some scammer that will use the scare tactics of calling the police or shutting down your computer. I just hang up the phone and have a good laugh.

There must be some people who fall for it or they would not be trying this scam. Good for you being one of the smart ones.

I hate answering the phone and let everything go to voicemail. I keep my landline for a few elderly relatives that would be confused with a new phone number.

I have been getting the same scam call the past 3 days. Something about a criminal complaint has been filed against you and you need to call this number to avoid prosecution. They had stopped for awhile, but now it has started up again. If you press the pound key rapidly sometimes the robo call will kick out your number. It's one way to stop the calls. It is really annoying, I just want to call them back and say "really?"

Don't ever call those numbers back as they will charge you thousands apparently just by phoning that number. If they really want you they will contact you again. If in doubt ring your own bank not from numbers in emails or posts.

There's two scam phone calls I get just about every day, and even though I block the numbers from which the calls came, they keep coming under different phone numbers. I never answer the calls, so it always ends up going to voicemail. The first one says that there are 4 serious allegations against me, and so I must respond immediately to clear up my name. The second...and my favorite, is a scam that's in Chinese! Even if I answered the call, I wouldn't understand a word that was being said! The auto-robot voice on the voicemail is entirely in Chinese! lol

@Marilynda1225 How do they even think that's going to work? If you can't understand a word they say, how can you fall for the scam? It sure doesn't make any sense to me.

I received a text yesterday that said I had recently applied for a rent to own with them and they need to verify my number and also put a stop and opt statement on it. Nope. If I do that, it will let them know I'm legit. They had a link to press as well which I didn't but I'm sure there are those that will think someone is renting or getting something in their name and go for it.

Well, I suggest you to just ignore those calls and maybe just block the numbers. Almost everyday I could read reports and warnings filed by people at social media and some sites like about similar scams. I think we should have been familiar with such scams by now.
