EARTHshook.

Friday night, the 14th of September, was the time the super typhoon Ompong, entered our area. The national disaster risk reduction and management office was giving us hourly updates about the weather disturbance until the strong winds howling and strong rains gushing disrupted the electricity thus leaving us groping in the dark until we switched on our flashlights. Midnight was worse, the winds seemed like tornados blowing everywhere. The earth shook. It was like a typhoon and earthquake in one instance. Unlike 2016's super typhoon Lawin that was categorised signal number 5 but the speed was at around 100kph, this super typhoon Ompong was signal number 4 but wind speed was at 20 kph; hence the winds stayed for 24 hours here in our place. We preferred strong rains than strong winds. River swelled but receded in 24 hours.

Nice to hear that despite that strong wind you experienced for 24 hours. Your place still stands stong. I wish and pray that everything and everyone will be okay now that the storm is gone. Restoration and returning back to normal will be the one that should now be in the minds and hearts of thos affected.

@ridingbet That is good to hear that barangay officials did their jobs right after the typhoon.

@ridingbet it didn't rain much here, but our streets were littered with leaves and branches. i'm glad your new barangay chairman is very hands-on.

the front part of our gate was so full of garbage that it nearly blocked one side of the road. our newly elected barangay chairman, as a young blood, did his responsibility of making our garbage collection area clear from garbage. this morning, a big dump truck and back hoe carried the trash, so our streets now are clean.

so good to hear from you again, ingrid. no damages around the house, i hope? now everyone from the north is accounted for. actually, there's one more - reine25/lucky15 - who i still wonder about. so when was power and internet restored in your area? are both stable now or still intermittent?

the avocado tree that was toppled down during lawin's wrath last 2016, had almost all of its branches blown away. the thick crown of leaves left baldness. the big moringa tree was also uprooted. but these are just minor things. we are lucky because we were safe and secure inside the house. dogs slept soundly while the winds blew strong. power was back last Friday night; internet was back last night. i think Reine is safe because the typhoon did not make its landfall in their province.

Oh my. I was wondering what happened. I saw in the news the aftermath and it is really heartbreaking. I am glad you are all okay there.
