Any information on Vertigo?

Hey everyone. My Nan has been a bit sick lately. She said that she has felt dizzy along with vomiting. She went to the doctor about it and has been told that she is dealing with Vertigo. I told her that I would do some research on it for her but thought I would ask here as well. Just wanting to know if anyone suffers with Vertigo and what they do to feel better. All answers are appreciated. Hoping she will go back to the doctor regardless but just thought I would have a look myself and ask anyone about what they go through ( if you have it or know about it ) and remedies etc.

First she must know what is the cause of vertigo. This can happen with too high Blood pressure (or too low), but it can be also a condition caused by a problem with the inner ear. My husband had vertigo caused my an unbalanced amount of liquid inside his ear.

@VivaLaDani13 It is a long time that my husband does not suffer anymore. The liquid in the inner ear cannot be drained, when there is an "Imbalance" from left to right ear there are vertigo.

@LadyDuck Oh ok my mistake thought maybe it could be drained somehow but I understand you now. I am so glad your husband hasn't had to suffer with it for a long time. Going good so far!

@LadyDuck Thank you so much for your answer Anna. She actually does suffer with high blood pressure. She has passed out a few times because of it. Scary thing to see. So your husband doesn't suffer anymore with it? Did he have the liquid drained out?

I do have vertigo. I take medicine but my doctor said, I have to move, little movement and will sure something to grab on. She definitely can't lay down because it triggers all the more.

@vandana7 I would never swim with them though. It's already bad enough when seaweed wraps itself around me. I think I'm going to die

It can also have to do with age. Old people suffer more from vertigo than young ones. I've had several sudden attacks of dizziness and even fallen down. Until now I was lucky and my guardian angel (in whose existence I don't believe I hasten to say) has watched out that this hasn't happened when I was crossing a street. I've just bought some medicine in a pharmacy against dizziness and am trying it. Can't say yet if it's good or not. But it wouldn't help your grandmother anyway to hear about a medicine sold in Germany.:-)

@MALUSE Thank you for answering this. I am sorry you have dealt with it and happy it hasn't put you in a dangerous situation! I hope the medicine is just what you need! My Nan was given some new medicine too. I believe it's called Serc. If I have it correct, it helps to take the pressure out of the ear/s which then stops the dizziness and nausea feelings.

It is a horrible illness and the symptoms can be very unpleasant but you need to establish why she has vertigo in the first place. There are a number of conditions that cause this but usually it is related to inner ear problems. There are treatments but importantly it is best to keep the head still until it passes and try not to move around.

@garymarsh6 Thank you for your answer. Very true too. She suffers with high blood pressure so not sure if this could be why. I'm not sure what else the doctor told her and if her ears was checked. Will have to ask her.

Only experienced vertigo after a doctor was done rummaging around in my ear. It probably is related to blood pressure. It causes imbalance. Mom has it at times since I am thinking now. Hmmm... didn't consider it before.

maybe my mother had felt vertigo, sometimes her eyes were dark and she saw a black grain enlarged then after resting in bed her vision returned to normal. Everyone has their own problems, not always dizzy and vomiting.

@VivaLaDani13 vertigo is rare for my mother, what I'm worried about is my uncle who often went out of town with motorbike when he felt dizzy he pulled over.

A lot of it is 'all in your head'

@VivaLaDani13 Partly 'all made up.' Because a lot of it is the result of chemicals your brain tells your body to make.

@mythociate I know that then can happen but I never rely on that as my first choice as it's a great way to make matters worse. If someone isn't feeling well, best to take them seriously and do all the necessary tests.

@mythociate You mean made up? Or you actually mean the issue is surrounded in the head?

She should be checked by an ENT doctors as vertigo is caused by problems with balance and one part of the ear do that. There could be also some impacted ear wax deep inside her ears that need to be out so the ENT doctors have the tools to do that. My sister in law have that. The doctors can prescribe medications also. Also try not to move her head/neck much as she will be dizzy. There are also some exercises the doctor can give her. hope she will be okay.

@rakski I know she went to the doctors at least once. I'm hoping she will go again but she can be stubborn like that. It annoys the crap out of me. Thank you for much for your answer and suggestions! Much appreciated!

@JESSY3236 That's very intriguing. I'm wanting to ask my Nan if she had her ears checked. Maybe it's something to do with that. Not sure. Thank you for answering.
