A hurricane in the Mediterranean Sea?

A 'Medicane' is forming in the Mediterranean Sea and set for Friday. Its what the weatherman name a tropical style extreme low pressure in the Mediterranean Sea region that is capable of F1 hurricane like wind speeds and rotation and also forms the familiar eye. Its not technically a hurricane as they are only called hurricanes if they form from water over 27 degrees. The conditions have been right for two weeks now for one to form and looks good for Friday. There have been around 60 of these storms that have formed since 1947 and 2011 and around ten have been intense enough to be classed as F1 hurricanes.

That's going to cramp the antics of the people smugglers for a while, as well as wash the bits of Malta, Pantelleria and possibly Lampedusa that survive the winds into the sea. The local weather forecast has it rough but not life-threatening for Thursday now...

I knew the Med could host some powerful storms but never imagined it could have a cyclonic storm like a hurricane. I hope if one forms, it soon dissipates.

It's rarely we hear of hurricanes in the Mediterranean Sea. Hope it will not be damaging.

That's too bad. Prayers help protect us from adverse weather. God help dissipate, stop safely and keep out at sea this Medicane forming in the Mediterranean Sea to keep the world safe from it. Thank you God, amen. Keep safe for you and yours! Take care.
