Friday has always been my favorite day, and Friday nights have always meant elegant dinners out and alone with my husband. We have been doing this since before we even got married. Sometimes we have other plans.
Tonight is one of those nights. Our son, actually both of them, have followed our tradition of romantic date nights with their wives, too. Except for tonight.
Our son and his bride have invited us for dinner at their house. On the menu will be vegetarian meatballs and pasta. I know it will be different for us, but delicious knowing it will be served with love.
Photo is mine of one of our son’s dormers. I forgot what’s behind that open window, so will make a beeline for it once we arrive.

@NJChicaa Absence makes the heart grow fonder. If you get lonely, give me a holler.
I was surprised those meatballs were as good as they were. I loaded up on nibbles before, just in case, and was only able to eat one of the 3 he had for me.

Thank you. We had such a fun time and those vegetarian meatballs weren't as bad as I thought they would be. At least you have the cats and parrot to keep you company. I hope you don't get lonely. Then again, you must be used to hubs traveling all the time for work.

@DianneN Yes I am used to the travel. I'm alone at home a lot of the time even when when he isn't traveling.
Glad to year that the soy meatballs weren't too bad. I had "veggie" meatballs that were mushroom-based once and they weren't very good.

They say that it is not what we eat that is important but the people that we eat it with is more important. Have a great evening with your son and daughter-in-law!

That saying is so true. Thanks so much. We had such a wonderful time and dinner with the kids. I was extremely impressed how much effort they put into the whole shebang. Plus, it was like dining in a mansion. What a fabulous house they have. It brought happy tears to my eyes.

@DianneN Nice to hear! How were the vegetarian meatballs? Could you tell that there was no meat?

@DianneN I'm glad you enjoyed the dinner and the vegan meatballs turned out to be so tasty. I enjoy many vegetarian substitutes for beef. Garden burgers or black bean burgers are among my favorite.
I do have a tendency to pick on my vegan/vegetarian friends despite my own efforts to be more plant strong and light on the meats.

@DianneN My wife no longer allows beef into the house, though she hasn't given up pork and bacon - the other white meat, or so the pork industry would have us believe. Several years ago we gave up meat for Lent and got along fine. I was willing to keep up our ovo/lacto diet after Lent ended but she insisted on reintroducing meat and got upset with me when I didn't want to eat her cooking.

Do you know Dianne, we started to have dinner in an elegant restaurant on Fridays even before we got married. We both lived in Milan (Italy) and we used to come her in Lugano to dine in a place we both liked a lot. I am sure you enjoyed the different Friday night.

@DianneN We have a few favorite restaurants where we know they have quiet tables where we can sit and stay there all the time we like. I do not like to be "rushed" out. We never eat at chain restaurants either, they are so cold and impersonal.

TWINS, yet again!!!! . It's so nice to set aside a day of the week for romantic dinners with just your husband. There are so many lovely, elegant new restaurants opening (and closing) and we love trying each one. Some are our favorites, because they have piano players or small live bands. We love those the most and never, ever eat at chain restaurants.

We had a fun time and get to have some great discussions and lots of laughs, too. The food was excellent, and they went all out just for us!!! We were thrilled. Thank you, Catherine. Their house is sooooooo big and beautiful, and we are so happy for them.

Vegetarian meatballs are not that bad. I used to only eat those and soon back to that type of menu.

More couples should set something like this up from the beginning of their relationships as well, maybe then there would be fewer divorces
Ok, I've never heard the term 'dormers' in reference to an open window before, does your son have boarders?

I agree! Date nights are wonderful and keeps the love going strong.
Dormers are those little additions on the roof. He has four, I believe. The dormers have windows. This is one of the dormers in his bonus room. No, he does not have boarders, nor will he ever, thank goodness. Why would you think so?

Family traditions I believe mean so much. They solidify a family and provide so many wonderful memories!
Traditions are our roots and a profile of who we are as individuals and who we are as a family. They are our roots, which give us stability and a sense of belonging - they ground us.
