I almost fainted a bit ago in my bathroom

The Unna Boot was starting to pull in more places on my skin on the lower part of my foot and I decided to remove it. That was the easy part. I planned on keeping the bandaging that was underneath but discovered that was what had been pulling on my skin not the Unna Boot as I thought. The nurse that bandaged me up used too much tape. That is the main reason I took over doing it myself even after appointments. I know where the tape won't irritate my skin whereas they have no idea. I did feel a bit like fainting a few times today but I could still walk around; I just was extra careful since I was alone part of the day. Possibly I was a bit dehydrated but I don't really know. It was difficult removing the bandaging closest to the wound. Even after I got it off I still felt odd. I finally called my husband who was in the next room and he came. In the mean time I lowered myself to the floor so I wouldn't keel over. I want really sure what to do next but being on the cool floor and possibly in that position helped me level out. We have grab bars on each side of the tub but I couldn't reach both so he picked me up enough that I could sit on the edge of the tub and from there I could reach both bars to get up. I wasn't in any more pain than I have been before but it may also have been more the fear of what the pain might be that caused me to faint. The bandaging I use is much thinner and I use less so I can get the padding off before removing the rest which didn't work for me tonight as all the layers were stuck together. I'm good now and back in bed with my feet up. I took an extra Tylenol and even more important I was able to walk using my heal again. That was a bit concerning since I've messed up sections of my foot this year overcompensating.

The fact you almost fainted is pretty scary. Do you know the reason of this? Do you have high blood pressure? I hope you feel better now.

@MarshaMusselman May be your blood pressure dropped too much because you had no food and also did not drink. It's better to mention this to your doctor.

No, if anything I have low blood pressure. I wasn't eating or drinking a lot so I could minimize trips to the bathroom, but I did quit drinking altogether. That may still have been t the cause and maybe me not being able to walk correctly with the Boot on affected something. If I'd never fainted before I'd be more concerned. This make there or four times in my lifetime and I've had other times when I thought I might but never did. I'll mention it to my doctor when I go next. I've felt fine since then and I didn't quite faint, just came a lot closer to it . The last time when at work I actually was out a few minutes.

@LadyDuck yes, I agree. I've had less water when I was younger and tend to drink more when I'm working either job, but that could have still been part of the reason. I was also in a vent over position fora period of time and that may be why more the same anything. The first time I fainted I was about ten, in the middle of mass, but I was digging something out of my hand and it was stuffy.

Always good to have hubby there to help. I'd put some vasoline or something on the wound so it is easy to remove the bandage next time.

We had medihoney on it and what's supposed to be an anti-stick material. But since the extra piece was trapped over it and then the Unna Boot and ace it probably got pasted in a bit more forcefully. I now have the Boot off. I have the medihoney, the no-stick piece and a small bandage over that before I put the rolled up piece over to help stop the fluid retention in that area. And then I donned my support stocking and ace over that.

@celticeagle the only fluid I have is in my foot and it's minimal. It's only around the wound. My ankle isn't swollen nor are my toes or feet, so I don't think it was that

I am glad that you are okay. That feeling is not a good feeling at all. It feels like you lose control over everything in your body. I don’t like that feeling at all.

@MarshaMusselman Yes I have back in the days. I was in college then was preparing school work and didn’t have enough sleep when I was in church because it’s Sunday I just felt dizzy and almost fell. Good thing I was with my grandma and she was able to assist me.

It sounds like you've experienced it before too. You are right it's not a pleasurable experience at all. I didn't completely pass out but came close enough. Had I not lowered myself to the floor I'm sure I would have hit something as I'm sure I would have gone down.

Yes that made it much easier and I'm glad I finally called him into the room. I knew enough to not stand up and to finally lower myself to the floor just in case. It did teach me one thing that I'm able to lower myself down without too much trouble. At work when I fainted last year or whenever it was, I didn't think I could do that and ended up falling. Not good.

@MarshaMusselman It is good to learn how to fall and other medical issues that can happen . We have to take care of ourselves in case we are alone sometimes.

I've felt like fainting a lot more often than I've actually fainted. I really didn't expect it tonight. At least I realized what was taking place so I didn't hit my head going down, nor did I hit our hurt my foot. The last time I fainted I was at work and broke my two front teeth which were both crowned.

@andriaperry I actually put my cheek to the cold floor. Otherwise I could still have run into something if I fainted even while sitting in the floor. But I'm glad my body have me time to realize I was worse than I thought.

Right now I'm propped up on pillows in the recliner mulling, so yes, I'm fine. I don't expect any more fainting spells in the near future either as I'm trying to drink more just to be sure.

So am I. It's hard enough to get up when there's more room. I normally use a chair.

I'm no longer fainting. I had a schlero procedure done on some veins in my foot hoping to progress a wound healing faster than it's been wanting to do. If that happens in the next few weeks I'll be overjoyed.

@ramapo17 I wore one, before my first knee surgery, for two months but the wound then was on the middle of my shin and that healed within the two months. This one is below my inner ankle bone. It's not a constant aching sometimes it's worse than other times. I even had a few times when it didn't hurt at all. One of those was for a week last Jan or so. I was sure it had healed and was dismayed to find it hadn't. The Boot is to promote healing but I don't seem able to keep it on as long where the wound is. When it dries it pulls the skin around the wounds which I don't like. If you want to read more about the Boot I changed the tags so now it shows the other posts where I talk about it more.
